That's all from us today. Hasn't quite been the run-fest we are so accustomed to seeing in the recent days, but never mind a Jonny Bairstow special. England continue to dominate white-ball cricket and it's a statement we've said quite often in the past few years. Both teams will now enjoy a day's break before they meet at Paarl for the second T20I. It's a day game and do remember to tune in for that. Until next time, this is Raju Peethala bidding goodbye on behalf of Abhinand Raghavendran and Vineet Anantharaman. Enjoy the weekend fellas, cheers!!
Eoin Morgan, England skipper: Extremely pleasing. It was a very good win given we were pretty average apart from two or three guys. Jonny's had an unbelievably good day out on a wicket that was a little bit two-paced. Also, South Africa posted an above-par score, chasing was always going to be difficult. Being three down early poses challenges, Jonny and Ben set up the chase nicely. When you win games of cricket like that one, when you don't necessarily play your best cricket, it's extremely pleasing. The more time we spend together, the more we play, the more we get used to the roles that we play. It's beginning of the tour, nice to start with a win. Hopefully, we'll improve and progress in the next few games. We need to be doing the right things.
Quinton de Kock, South African skipper: We did think it was a good total with the way our guys batted, but it just didn't come right tonight. I don't necessarily think it was just that one over, but the way Jonny and Stokes batted was superbly. Jonny batted really well today. Very happy with the way Linde was bowling in the nets; happy for him and it was a good day for him. Just one or two small things in the field we could've done better.
Jonny Bairstow, Player of the Match: Very pleasing to start the series with some runs. It's something you (batting at four) got to enjoy having played different formats of the game and it's kept me in good stead and our batting order is very flexible. I was happy with how I played in IPL, didn't finish well but over a period of time when you play in different conditions you gotta adapt well. You could see the ball into the pitch was quite tricky, I was just trying to maintain my weight forward and see the ball as close as I can. You are always in the game and tonight Rashid coming in at 11, even if it's 15-16 RPO you know you are always in the game.
21:47 local: All smiles in the England dressing room as they congratulate each other. Finally, we have seen a visiting team win today. The chase seemed a touch tricky after losing the top three inside six overs, but Bairstow showed no signs of panic as he hammered a 48-ball 86, winning the game single-handedly for his side. Walked in at 4, Jonny stitched a 50-plus partnership with Stokes to keep up with the required run rate and the game seemed well-poised with the equation reading 51 off 4 overs. Beuran Hendricks then went 1 4 1 5WD 6 2WD 4 WD 4 [28 off 6 balls] to hand over whatever little advantage the hosts had and Bairstow was just unstoppable with his strokeplay. Paced his innings smartly and played with great purpose throughout his stay. Hang in for the presentations...
Ngidi to Bairstow, SIX, in the zone and it's been bullied into the construction site with a thumping blow. Bairstow's hit it into the same area (over mid-wicket) where the first six of the game was hit. What a perfect finish. England win by 5 wickets and take a 1-0 lead in the three match T20I series.
Ngidi to Bairstow, FOUR, just one strike away now! Slower ball dragged short outside off, Bairstow gives it all on the slog and powers it into the deep mid-wicket fence with ease
England two strikes away

4-0-32-0
Rabada to Bairstow, 1 run, full and straight, Bairstow biffs it down to long-on and calls 'just one' as he trundles to the other end
Rabada to Sam Curran, 1 run, throws the kitchen sink outside off and gets it to the right of deep cover for a single
Rabada to Sam Curran, SIX, poor bowling from Rabada! Slower ball but it was well short and wide, Curran had plenty of time and room to thwack it for a 79-metre maximum over the outstretched right hand of Faf at long-on
Rabada to Bairstow, 1 run, slower short ball outside off, gets slightly big on Bairstow but he manages to pull it towards deep mid-wicket for a single
A bit of a conflab between Bairstow and Sam Curran.
Rabada to Bairstow, 2 runs, swivels and pulls the short ball to the left of deep square, calls for two straightaway and gets it with ease
Rabada to Bairstow, no run, sees Bairstow standing just outside leg and angles a full one towards him, successfully manages to nutmeg the batsman
Kagiso Rabada [3.0-0-21-0] is back into the attack
England are three sixes away from sealing this. Rabada to bowl this over and Ngidi to bowl the next...

Lungi Ngidi
3-0-21-2
Ngidi to Bairstow, 1 run, walks across and forces the slower length delivery to square leg for a quick single
Sam Curran is being checked for concussion. The ball deflected off his elbow into his helmet grille and looks like we are good to resume
Ngidi to Sam Curran, leg byes, 1 run, Curran walks a long way across and fails to get bat on the slower ball bumper, gets hit on the elbow and as he turned back to spot the ball Bairstow was already in his eye-line. Had to rush to the other end and QDK misses the direct hit by a big margin at the bowling end.
