The two-time champions tamed the five-time World Cup winners with rather ease. Everything went according to plan for them from the toss and Australia were on the back foot throughout the game. Which one was more competitive - this match or the French Open final? I'll let you decide that. Plenty to ponder for the defending champions, while India are ticking all the right boxes. Two easy wins and their next game is against the Kiwis. Well, it's time to bring down the curtains. Hope you enjoyed our coverage. Join us back tomorrow. Until then, it's goodbye from Abhinand Raghavendran, Nikhil Jadhav, Pradeep Krishnamurthy, Varun Dixit, Sriram AS and Shashikant Singh
Harsha Bhogle: The 86 off 44 balls between Pandya, Dhoni and Rahul was probably the difference eventually. And I thought Bhuvneshwar was excellent. I was a sceptic, to be honest, but delighted for him.
Virat Kohli: A top, top win for us specially after losing that series in India. We had a point to prove against this side. We came here with intent right from ball one. The opening p'ship was outstanding. I got a few runs, Hardik the way he played and MS... It was a brilliant start with the ball on a wicket that was quite flat. That always pleases you as a captain. You have to bowl well. You can't take things for granted just because you have 350+ on the board. That 30 runs gives you the luxury. One of the top three getting hundred. We decided to send Hardik to cash in, he could just hit from ball one. For us if Shami plays, it has to be overcast conditions and the pitch has to offer a lot. You can't take Bhuvi's performances in the one-day format for granted. He's a champion bowler and picks up wickets with the new ball and with the old ball. It was a game changer (the wickets of Smith and Stoinis in the same over). These guys are so experienced and professional, you hardly need to say anything to them. They know what to do. Their plans are being executed which is a very good thing for the team.
Aaron Finch: They got 120 off the last 10 overs and which is a lot. We didn't bowl well. With so much batting to come, makes it tough to stop. There wasn't huge amount on offer (help for the bowlers). We could have been straighter, dried up (runs) a little bit at times. They (India) bat very deep, you want to go for wickets. Just one of those games, they outplayed us. You look at everything (when asked if he'd change the combination). You assess the conditions; you look for different combinations and different balances over time. You are rubbing it in (when asked about his post-dismissal reaction). You back your partners, I could have said no as well. We were starting to pick up the tempo; that's one mode of dismissal (run-out). They bowled well to him (Warner). The wicket was a touch slow when we started to bat. He's (Warner) a great batsman; he's a world-class player and he'll bounce back.
Shikhar Dhawan, Man of the Match: We are happy with the result as it was a great team effort. It's a great sign for our team and I'm happy with this man of the match award. Very happy with the performance overall. We are a great fielding side, we took great catches. We have a good bowling side, great spinners as well. We work really hard in the nets, our process is very strong that's why the results are going our way. We ticked all the boxes today. We knew they are a great side and the match will go down to the wire. We need to continue ticking the boxes in upcoming matches. The fans are having a great time and they'll be happy with this win.
India's wins vs Aus in WC
1983, Chelmsford: 118 runs
1987, Delhi: 56 runs
2011, Ahmedabad: Five wkts
2019, Oval: 36 runs
This is the first time Australia have lost a run chase in WCs since losing to Pakistan at Leeds in 1999. The streak of 19 consecutive wins batting second since then comes to an end today
First loss in 11 ODIs for Australia
Most runs in a WC match:
688 Aus (376) v SL (312) Sydney 2015
682 Pak (348) v Eng (334) Nottingham 2019
676 Ind (338) v Eng (338) Bengaluru 2011
671 Aus (377) v SA (294) Basseterre 2007
668 Ind (352) v Aus (316) Oval 2019
18:43 Local Time, 17:43 GMT, 23:13 IST: An emphatic win for India. They have out-batted, out-bowled and out-fielded the defending champions here at the Oval. Dhawan scored a brilliant century and every Indian batsman, who got to bat, made substantial contributions. And, India ended up posting the highest score by any team against Australia in World Cups. The new-ball bowlers were disciplined and just when Finch started to time the ball, he was run-out. Warner never got going and played a painful knock - 56 off 84. That innings, I fear can be termed as a match-losing knock. Smith's run-a-ball knock didn't help the cause either. Maxwell made the match lively with his little cameo, but he was scalped by Chahal again. Carey scored a brisk fifty and justified his spot in the playing XI, but his knock only helped in reducing the margin of defeat. A complete all-round performance from Kohli's men.

Bhuvneshwar to Zampa, out Caught by (sub)Jadeja!! Slower ball at 117kph, Zampa backs away to go over the in-field, doesn't get it anywhere close to the middle and ends up chipping it to mid-off. Easy catch for Jadeja. India win by 36 runs. Zampa c (sub)Jadeja b Bhuvneshwar 1(3)
Bhuvneshwar to Zampa, THATS OUT!! Caught!!
Bhuvneshwar to Carey, 1 run, Carey loses his balance and drives it to long-off. He was backing away and hence had to reach out to this full-and-wide ball outside off
Bhuvneshwar to Zampa, 1 run, square-drives this fullish ball on off, Chahal dives to his left at backward point to save a run or two
Bhuvneshwar to Zampa, no run, 133kph, in-nipper from a short of length and Zampa is beaten comprehensively on the inside edge. Bounced over the middle-stump
Bhuvneshwar to Carey, 1 run, 120kph, short of length delivery, wristed behind square leg
Adam Zampa, right handed bat, comes to the crease
Bhuvneshwar to Carey, out Starc Run Out!! 1 run completed. Carey squeezes this very full ball to sweeper cover and they come back for the second run. Vijay Shankar fires in a throw to the bowler's end. It wasn't on-target, but Bhuvneshwar collects it cleanly and flicks it onto the stumps to catch Starc short of his crease. Starc run out (Shankar/Bhuvneshwar) 3(3)

Bumrah
10-1-61-3
Bumrah to Carey, 1 run, 124kph, Carey only manages to chip it over the bowler's head. Bumrah: 10-1-61-3
Bumrah to Carey, no run, Carey is struggling to put bat on ball. Yet another slower ball and Carey is early to swing his bat
Bumrah to Carey, byes, 2 runs, almost an action replay of the previous ball. Deceives Dhoni too as it turns away. Brushes the keeper's thigh and rolls towards third man
Bumrah to Carey, no run, excellent change of pace. The off-cutter at 120kph and Carey didn't pick that. He was looking to swipe and missed it completely
Harsha Bhogle: Top win for India. Batsmen provided a safe total and in intervals, which is important to recognise, the bowling was excellent. This is a powerful performance and reminiscent of the start in 2015.
Bumrah to Carey, no run, shuffles across premeditatively to lap-sweep/scoop, misses the in-slanter. Was down leg, but not wided
