Twelve years ago, India won the silverware at this venue, and today, they become the first side to qualify for the semi-finals. As quizzical as it may seem, on both occasions, the only thing that Sri Lanka won was the toss. Wankhede, indeed, has been a special place for the men in blue. Only two other teams (South Africa and Australia) have a chance of getting to 14 from here. Who will join India next? Just 12 games remaining and we have 8 contenders for 3 spots. If anything, it's gonna get pretty tight for the teams in the lower half with each passing game you'd think. The World Cup heat will be on in Lucknow tomorrow as Afghanistan seek to complete a hat-trick of wins, and strengthen their case for the semis while at it. Netherlands, too, will be eager to clinch their third win of the tournament. Which way will the pendulum oscillate? Join us tomorrow to find out. Cheers and good night!!

Rohit Sharma | Indian skipper: Very happy knowing that we have officially qualified now. Been a good effort from the squad, when we started off in Chennai. This was our goal, to qualify first and then obviously to be in the semis and the finals. The way we approached these 7 games, it was quite clinical. Everyone put in the effort and a lot of individuals have put their hand up. Was a good challenge to put runs on the board, and that's the kind of template you gotta have when you want to score that many runs. 350 on any pitch is a very good score and a lot of credit to the batting unit for taking us to that score and the bowlers did the job obviously. Shreyas is a very strong (in his mind) lad and today, as you saw, he went there and did what he is exactly known for and that is what we expect from him. Showed that he is ready to take the challenge that is in front of him and Siraj is another quality bowler for us and if he does that (making the new ball talk) things look different for us. He (Siraj) has got a lot of skills when he is operating with the new ball. Even Surya, for that matter, got us some crucial runs in the back end of the last game. To put in a performance back-to-back against England and now today, shows the quality of the seamers and if there is something in the conditions, they are quite lethal. All in all, it was pleasing to watch (bowlers dominating proceedings) and I hope they continue to do it that way. I have left it to the bowler and the keeper (whether or not to take a review) to make that decision for me, and I gotta find the individuals I can trust and I know it can go the other way as well. We got one right and one wrong today. They (South Africa) are playing some good cricket, and so are we. It's gonna be a great spectacle for the people out there and people of Kolkata are gonna enjoy that game.

Kusal Mendis | Sri Lanka skipper: I am very disappointed with the team's performance, with myself also. They bowled really well, little bit of seam movement under lights as well. Unfortunately, we lost the match. I wanted to bowl first because I felt the wicket would be slow in the first half. Madushanka bowled really well and we missed taking chances from Virat and Gill and sometimes those moments could change the game. Our bowlers did well in the middle overs. They bowled really well in the first 6 overs, and I think they deserve all the credit tonight. We have another 2 games and I hope we come back strong in the next game.

Shubman Gill talking to the official broadcasters: The way they were bowling we were anticipating wickets. Siraj is always fired up. They were sensational. Has made job easier for us. I am the kind of person who doesn’t get nervous. I look to tackle it my own way at the start. Not full fitness. I am four kilos down from dengue in terms of mass and muscle weight. Honestly the discussion was to play in a compact manner. The odd ball was seaming. Hit the balls in our areas. You couldn’t get into a shell. Looked to put the pressure on the bowlers. I felt in the previous matches I got starts expect the last one. Sometimes you play a good shot and it goes to the fielder. We thought about rotating the strike today. I honestly don’t think it was a 400 wicket. We batted well to get 350. Shreyas was the key today. He batted superbly. That’s our bowling coach he (Shami) was gesturing.

Mohammed Shami | Player of the Match: Our bowling is in good shape and with the kind of rhythm (talking about the form of the pacers) that we are in, everyone is enjoying and everyone is happy for each other's success and more importantly, we are bowling as a unit and that's the result you are getting to see. I always try to bowl in good areas and be in good rhythm. In big tournaments, once the rhythm goes away, it's very tough to get it back. I always focus on hitting the good areas and length. Very happy (on becoming India's leading wicket-taker in World Cups) It's very important to be in rhythm in white ball cricket and hit the good areas. If you hit the good areas with the new ball you will get assistance off the pitch and for me length matters a lot. The kind of support we get from the crowd, I want to thank each and every one of them. We also get a lot of support whenever we travel outside India as well. The dressing room is in a very good space.

Mohammed Shami has become just the second bowler in ODI history to bag three consecutive 4-plus wicket hauls more than once. This is his second such streak after having returned 4/40, 4/16 and 5/69 in three consecutive innings at the 2019 World Cup. 20:34 Local Time, 15:04 GMT, 20:34 IST: 50 all out in the Asia cup final! 55 all out tonight! Sri Lanka must hate the sight of India at this moment. In hindsight, Kusal Mendis must be thinking that it was a blunder to bowl first. Under lights here at the Wankhede, the ball does something and India have a couple of monsters with the ball in Bumrah and Shami. And Siraj who had an OK tournament so far suddenly turned into the monster he was in the Asia Cup final and Sri Lanka had no answers. The ball swung and seamed and the tone was set first ball when Bumrah trapped Nissanka LBW. From there, it was 3/4, 14/6, 22/7, 29/8 and finally 55 all out. Sri Lanka will be relieved and happy that they crossed the 36 of Canada to avoid the ignominy of getting the lowest-ever score in #CWC history. Shami came on and helped himself to a fifer - his third overall in World Cups and 2nd in this tournament after the early damage had been done by Siraj and Bumrah. Take out the 9 extras India conceded and it would have been an even more sorry tale. When the ball stopped moving alarmingly, Rajitha and Theekshana helped themselves to 14 and 12 respectively. But the game was well beyond them already. With this win, India become the first team to qualify for the semis. Stay tuned for the post-match formalities...
