So after six consecutive losses, Bangladesh have another win in this tournament. It takes them above Sri Lanka on NRR and into the qualifying spots for the Champions Trophy. Things can still change of course, but the win would be of some satisfaction against an opponent they've had heated battles with in the recent past. The big talking point was the Mathews dismissal and how he became the first batter in international cricket to get timed out. Sri Lanka were furious, while Shakib stuck to his guns and then let his bat do the talking later. Do check out all the reactions to that incident in our post match coverage. For now, that's it from us. Goodbye and goodnight!

Shakib Al Hasan: When I won toss, didn't have any hesitation to bowl. We've trained here and know there's a lot of dew. It was a very good partnership, and would've loved to finish it off. One of our fielders came to me and said if you appeal now he'll be out. Then I appealed and the umpires asked me if I'm serious or whether I am going to take it back. It's in the laws. I don't know if it's right or wrong. I was at war and I had to take a decision to make sure my team wins. Right or wrong, there will be debates but if it is in the rules I don't mind taking those chances. That (altercation with Mathews) helped, bit more fight, I'm 36 and normally fight doesn't come easily but happy it did today.

Kusal Mendis: Charith played a brilliant knock. But we were 30-40 runs short. Happy that some good young players coming through, and happy we have shown some promise in this tournament. In the future we'll have a good team. We had injuries to main players, also did some mistakes. Had we played better cricket, we would've had a better chance. It's very disappointing - when Angelo came to the crease, there were 5 second left. Then he found out strap of the helmet came off. It's disappointing umpires couldn't step in and make correct decision.

Shakib Al Hasan | Player of the Match: They are two important players (Mendis and Samarawickrama), lucky to get those two wickets. There wasn't much for the bowlers, we bowled really well upfront. Spinners kept it tight. Both the spinners bowled really well. Bowling wins us more matches, fast bowlers were bowling really well up to the World Cup. We couldn't live up to our expectations but we knew that we can fight back, we had that mentality. We kept on believing and we kept on coming back and today it paid off. The ground dimension helped as well, the shorter boundary, there was a lot of pace on the ball, so I just had to use the pace, luckily it came off and from there on I never looked back. (Best performance came a little late?) I'd agree with that, we could have been consistent, that's one disappointment.

21:58 Local Time, 16:28 GMT, 21:58 IST: Bangladesh needed to chase down 280, and they got 169 of them via a third-wicket partnership between Shakib Al Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto. The two left-handers have had a woeful time in the World Cup, but they turned up today to make it a fairly comfortable win despite the late wickets towards the end. There was more drama around Mathews being timed out and all the byplay that followed than there was in the contest. The two coaches can be seen having a chat now even as the players go off the field. Meanwhile, this defeat confirms that Sri Lanka are out of the semis race. They didn't have enough on the board at a venue where we have seen massive scores in this competition. Dilshan Madushanka gave them some hope with two early wickets, and then Shakib looked scratchy early on. But once he got his eye in, and the dew settled in, him and Shanto really took the game away.
