A strange game of cricket to put an end to what has been a strange Group A. Netherlands started today as table-toppers, but were at risk of falling out of the group after losing against Sri Lanka. But they'll live to fight on in the Super Twelves as Namibia botched up a chase of 149 runs against a so far winless UAE. We know who'll be joining the rest of the teams from Group A now, stick around to find out who qualifies from Group B which is also wide open. See you tomorrow for that, bye for now!
CP Rizwan | UAE captain: A great moment for UAE cricket. I would like to thank our coach and the management. We had been doing well in patches, but today everything clicked together. (On Waseem's bowling at the death) He used to bowl a lot of death overs in our domestic cricket, and with the dew I backed my instinct of bowling medium pacers. This win is really big for UAE cricket, it can tell the world that we are here!
Gerhard Erasmus | Namibia captain: I thought we did well with the ball to keep them under 150. I think it was much below par, but we let them get away with a few shots in the middle overs. These kind of games happen, we need to react better to situations when the momentum swings away from us. (On David Wiese) He's a match-winner who plays all over the world, our dressing room gets to learn a lot from him.
Muhammad Waseem | Player of the Match: It was tough bowling at the death after so long, but I was always confident. I think the way we bowled the second-last over, we got back into the game. The plan was to keep it straight as the boundaries in front of the wicket were very long. The previous two games also we were in winning positions, we could have won them. Very happy to have won a World Cup game for the first time.
22:31 Local Time, 11:31 GMT, 17:01 IST: What a strange, strange innings of cricket this has been! Namibia lose three wickets within the powerplay, and their chase was going nowhere when skipper Gerhard Erasmus fell in the 8th over. Namibia were reeling at 67/7 after 13 overs, totally out of it. But then David Wiese and Trumpelmann stitched a record [in T20 World Cup history] 70-run partnership for the eighth wicket. UAE felt the heat with the dew setting in and the Namibian batters going all guns blazing. But opening batter Waseem, bowling for just the fourth time in his T20I career, delivered a spectacular 20th over, as he dismissed Wiese and defended 14 runs to give him side a famous victory. Namibia have somehow managed to get themselves knocked out after steamrolling Sri Lanka in their opening game. Stick around for what the skippers have to say about this game.
