From not qualifying for the main tournament in 2021 to beating England in the Super 12s in 2022, Ireland have come a long way. This win also sends a reminder for the rest of the teams that you cannot take them lightly. England, like Buttler said, have put more pressure on themselves and what better way to release it than a victory against their arch-rivals. That encounter is on Friday. But we have another game lined up today between New Zealand and Afghanistan. It is at the same venue and hopefully the rain stops. Switch tabs to catch all the updates. For now, goodbye and stay safe..

Andy Balbirnie | Ireland captain and Player of the Match: We were slightly disappointed with the way we finished, we lost 7 wickets for not a lot and they took the momentum away from us. Our message was to just create chances and we know how this England team like to play, if we take every chance then we would be in with a shot. It was tough, they (England) have some express pace and different variations, we rode our luck, took a few blows and moved forward. The platform was pretty well laid and Tucker played well. It is amazing and kind of emotional. We haven't played a game here, to come and play the tournament favorites, with so many big names and to put on a show is very satisfying. We had a great week in Hobart and to do this was at one of the biggest grounds is pretty special. A few (supporters) of them extended their trip, they are so passionate about the game and we are trying to make the sport big in Ireland. Quite a quick turn around but we have the momentum and will try to make the most of it.

Jos Buttler | England captain: Specially in the first 10 overs with the ball. I thought we were poor and allowed Ireland to get away. We were not consistent enough, let them score on both sides, there were some favourable conditions for bowling, we had everything in our favour; winning the toss and electing to field knowing the weather, we didn't take advantage of that. The second 10 overs were much better, we let Ireland get 20-30 runs too many in the first 10 and were under pressure to restrict them. They showed us how to bowl on that wicket. Myself getting out in the first over, that's never ideal and we never managed to grab the initiative. They bowled well and used the wicket well. It (the rain) was going to get heavier and heavier wasn't it, but again as I said we won the toss and chose to bowl with the advantage of knowing what to do with the bat. They outplayed us in all three facets of the game and the better team won. We know we have made a mistake here and have put more pressure on us, but certainly if you needed a game to get going then England-Australia is one of those.

Fantastic scenes out there. The Ireland players are celebrating with their family and friends who have travelled all the way to support them. Mind you, it is still raining out there but no weather is going to stop the Irish from their celebrations tonight. Bengaluru in 2011 and Melbourne in 2022 - two wins which will be remembered for a long time in Ireland cricket history.

Harsha Bhogle: England vs Australia was always a huge game. It has just become bigger!

18:54 Local Time, 07:54 GMT, 13:24 IST: Handshakes all round. Ireland win by 5 runs. This is a massive result; not only is it an upset but this victory from Ireland throws this group wide open. There is something about this encounter in a World Cup that gets the best out of Ireland. They started positively by taking on the England pacers and though they lost their way towards the end, Balbirnie and Co. had done enough to get a par total. Joshua Little then gave them the perfect start by getting rid of the openers in his first two overs, while Fionn Hand bowled a jaffa to remove Stokes. Malan and Brook struggled to keep up with the rate and that left Moeen to do too much, he struck a few meaty blows before the rain made an appearance. But since we had already had a couple of delays at the start, there wasn't enough time to get the game restarted.

18:42 Local Time, 07:42 GMT, 13:12 IST: It has started to rain. The umpires have a quick chat and decide to call for the covers. England are 5 runs behind as per DLS. The par score is 110. The hessain is being spread over the playing surface. "That's about as hard as it has been all day," informs Nasser Hussain on air. The two skippers have a chat near the boundary rope and it will be Balbirnie who will be the happier man at the moment. The cut-off time to restart the game is 18:56 Local, that's not good news for England.

Delany to Moeen Ali, SIX, whoa! That's a fantastic shot from Moeen. Fraction short and drifted across, Moeen does not try to go across the line, but instead flat-bats it straight down the ground and clears the rope comfortably

McCarthy to Malan, out Caught by Fionn Hand!! This is a huge wicket. Yes, Malan was struggling to time the ball but he had got himself in and had an idea about the surface. Short of length angled across, Malan moves across his stumps to play the pull and is deceived by the extra bounce, the ball hits the higher part of the bat and balloons towards third man, Hand runs to his right and takes a good sliding catch.
