Afghanistan's semifinal dream comes to an end. Sri Lanka stay alive in the competition and plenty of things ought to go their way for them to make it to the semis. They'll be rooting for the Kiwis in today's second game at the Gabba. Switch tabs to follow the high-octane clash between New Zealand and England. See you there...
Dasun Shanaka: It was a good performance from bat and ball. DDS played a classy innings. He showed that in T20 it's not all about taking the bowlers on, he timed his innings. Credit to him and Wanindu. The bowlers bowled in the right areas. We found some consistency today, what is important is to continue in the next game as well. The other games are beyond our control, but we are aiming to win our next game with a healthy rate which gives us a good chance to qualify.
Mohammad Nabi: We got a good start in the powerplay. We didn't keep the momentum going. We tried to post a good score on the board. The wicket got slower towards the end. The fast bowlers bowled too full and we erred with our lines and lengths. We gave away too many opportunities for them to hit. We didn't play any game in the last 10 days, we didn't get any momentum. We have one more game, hopefully we do well.
Wanindu Hasaranga, Player of the Match: We lost last two games against Australia and New Zealand. We had to play our best game. I am really happy. Last game also I thought Zampa bowled well. I tried to vary my pace here. Perth was very good for the batters. I had gone for a few runs against Australia. But I knew I will bounce back. I had the support of big boundaries here.
17:22 Local Time, 07:22 GMT, 12:52 IST: Clinical from Dhananjaya who fittingly hits the winning runs. Sri Lanka's bowlers bowled really well in the back end of the first innings to restrict Afghanistan to a below-par score. In reply, the Asian champions got off to a slow start. They lost both their openers to spin and were 63/2 at the halfway stage. After the drinks break, Dhananjaya decided to up the ante and went about his business in style. He used his feet well, knocked the good balls around and punished anything loose. DDS notched up a classy fifty off just 36 deliveries and took his team over the line with 9 balls to spare.
Fazalhaq Farooqi to Dhananjaya, FOUR, Sri Lanka win by 6 wickets! That's a stunning shot to finish the match. Overpitched delivery, Dhananjaya stylishly carves it over extra cover for a boundary. Afghanistan have been knocked out!
Fazalhaq Farooqi to Dhananjaya, no run, wide yorker, Dhananjaya throws his bat at it and connects with thin air
Fazalhaq Farooqi to Dhananjaya, 2 runs, short ball, pulled well in front of square on the leg-side. Rashid slides to his left and he seems to have injured himself in the process. It's his left knee/leg and he needs assistance to walk off. That's not a good sign, let's hope it isn't serious... Team down and out, but he puts in that slide to drag the match as far as possible. Commitment!
Dasun Shanaka, right handed bat, comes to the crease

Mujeeb to Rajapaksa, out Caught by Gurbaz!! Rajapaksa is walking. A wicket off the final ball for Mujeeb but it's too little, too late. It's the in-turner and Rajapaksa tries to late-steer it backward of square on off-side. Hits his glove and lobs up off the keeper's arms. Gurbaz takes a safe catch. Mujeeb to Rajapaksa, THATS OUT!! Caught!!
Mujeeb to Dhananjaya, 1 run, eases a drive to long-on
Mujeeb to Dhananjaya, FOUR, another short ball, Dhananjaya treks back in his crease to pull in the gap through mid-wicket. Runs away to the fence and Sri Lanka are one shot away from winning this game
Mujeeb to Dhananjaya, FOUR, wow! Short of a length ball, Dhananjaya reverse-scoops it over the keeper's head. Used the bowler's pace to his advantage
Mujeeb to Rajapaksa, 1 run, 89kph, shortish delivery, pulled to deep mid-wicket
Mujeeb to Dhananjaya, 3 runs, short of length, turned to mid-wicket for a single. It should have been a single but a needless direct-hit at the bowler's end results in the batters taking two more. Fifty up for Dhananjaya!
Mujeeb Ur Rahman [3.0-0-11-1] is back into the attack
Equation: 16 runs | 18 balls. Afghanistan need something magical and here's Mujeeb
