So a humdinger of a contest in Barbados to whet our appetite for what should be a cracking T20 World Cup. A good reminder that T20 cricket doesn't always have been slam dunk 200+ games, because sometimes low scoring thrillers can also have you glued to your television sets. Especially, when it is against two associate nations who are finding themselves in this format, in this world stage. Sometimes, the pressure and value of victory can outweigh the fear of failure, especially between two sides that don't have a lot of cricketing history to call back on. That's all for this game, it's bye bye from Barbados from Saurabh Shankar on behalf on Raju Peethala, Abhinav Guha and Praveen Kumar.
Gerhard Erasmus | Namibia Captain : Difficult to get momentum through the innings, we tried by getting the singles and doubles but every now and then we needed those boundaries which were difficult to execute. On a pitch like that, you need to take responsibillity after batting 15-20 balls, and you shouldn't allow new batters to face. In the Super Over we proved that there are runs to be had if you just assess the pitch well and take responsibility. (On Wiese bowling Super Over) David was up in the change room and he was very clear that he wanted to bowl the Super Over. (On the win) Happy to break the duck and get through in this tournament. We were very excited to come here and play in this competition, hopefully we can continue this form.
Aqib Ilyas | Oman Captain: Would have enjoyed the game if we would have won, but this is part of cricket. Credit goes to Namibia. (On first innings) Credit goes to Trumpelmann for the way he executed, and then our batters adjusted well. However, when we were set we should have gone for more runs. We knew the wicket was on the turning side, and we could have put more pressure with some more runs on the board. (On Super Over) I think Bilal is one of the best bowlers at associate level, but there are days when you don't execute. He was very clear and we were very clear that he should bowl. But he didn't execute and the batsman did well. That is cricket, it happens
David Wiese | Player of the Match: Lost a couple of years tonight, don't know how many I have left in me now. Just been that kind of an emotionally draining game. (On his Super Over bowling) I had a feel for the wicket and knew what I had to execute in the Super Over. The pitch was difficult, was a bit two-paced and different to what we expected. I think we adapted well and it was surely a pitch where you had to spend some time out there. I think if we were chasing 180, we would have had to attack without thinking too much about the pitch, so tough to say what would have been a par total on this wicket.
Wiese pumps his hands in the air in delight and Erasmus has a wry smile on his face and he jogs over to congratulate his teammates. He will know that his side have got through a tight one today, got through after nearly missing a straight forward chase. After a tightly contested game across 40 overs, the Super Over ended up being one-sided as Namibia whacked 21 runs while batting first. A four and a six from Wiese, followed up by two boundaries by Erasmus off the final two balls. Then with the ball in hand, Wiese was on point with his yorkers, keeping it tight in the blockhole and giving nothing to work with for the Oman batters. He ended up getting the wicket of Khushi and Oman could only manage 10 in reply, that is after a last ball six.
BALL 6: Wiese to Aqib, SIX, it's a maximum but it doesn't matter! Wiese has emerged as the hero for Namibia with both bat and ball in the Super Over! A juicy full-toss around off, Aqib swipes it over deep backward square leg. The Namibian players are happy! It was a very close affair until the Super Over but Namibia ran away with the show when it mattered the most.
BALL 5: Wiese to Zeeshan Maqsood, 1 run, Slower length ball at the stumps, keeps a tad low. Maqsood swing wildly across the line and gets a thick inside edge towards deep backward square leg. Oman are 4/1
BALL 4: Wiese to Aqib, 1 run, fuller length ball angling in from outside off, Aqib swings across the line but only manages to get an inside edge onto his pads. The ball rolls to the left of Wiese and the batters take a run. The game is done and dusted for Oman unless there's an illegal delivery. Oman are 3/1
BALL 3: Wiese to Naseem Khushi, OUT, BOWLED!! Stunning stuff from Wiese!! Very full, right in the popping crease on that one and nothing that Khushi could do about it. Tries to stab it out but ends up chopping it back onto his leg stump. Wiese yelps in celebration, his heroics in the Super Over with bat and ball have almost seen Namibia through here. Naseem Khushi b Wiese 2(3). Oman are 2/1
BALL 2: Wiese to Naseem Khushi, no run, brilliant from Wiese! A yorker tailing in from outside off, Naseem Khushi can only jam it back to him. A dot ball is worth in gold now. Oman are 2/0
BALL 1: Wiese to Naseem Khushi, 2 runs, Wide yorker, ends as a low full toss. The batter throws the kitchen sink at it and gets it over extra cover. Protected by the long-off fielder running to his left. Oman are 2/0
Skipper Erasmus have ditched his batting pads quickly and is out giving a pep talk to his side. He seems composed and that's the energy he is trying to pass on to the rest. The Oman batters come out to bat. David Wiese to bowl, Naseem Khushi on strike, Zeeshan Maqsood on non strike
Namibia have scored 21 off the Super Over! Namibia failed to get over the line while chasing 110 but have managed to come out with flying colours in the Super Over. Bilal Khan didn't bowl a bad over apart from that one juicy full-toss. But, both Wiese and Erasmus manipulated the field by using the crease and played inventive shots to give their side a real chance to defend this one.
BALL 6: Bilal Khan to Erasmus, FOUR, what a shot! Nothing wrong with the delivery but the execution from Erasmus was spot on! A wide yorker outside off, Erasmus waits for it and opens his bat-face to carve it past backward point to find the fence. Namibia are 21/0
BALL 5: Bilal Khan to Erasmus, FOUR, So cutely executed by Erasmus. Knew the deep fielders were in front of square and shuffles across to play this full delivery outside off. Brings out the sweep to the fast bowler and gets it through square leg into a vacant pocket of the ground for four. Namibia are 17/0
BALL 4: Bilal Khan to Wiese, 1 run. A brilliant yorker length ball outside off, Wiese can only carve it to deep backward point for a single. Namibia are 13/0
BALL 3: Bilal Khan to Wiese, 2 runs, nails the wide yorker from round the wicket. Stabbed into the ground and towards long-off. Non striker Erasmus is admant to come back for the second, hares back and puts in the dive as the throw comes his end. Two runs taken, two valuable runs! Namibia are 12/0
BALL 2: Bilal Khan to Wiese, SIX, that's a poor ball and it has been dispatched! A juicy full-toss outside off, Wiese lines it up and smokes it over wide long-on for a maximum. Brilliant start to the Super Over for Namibia. Namibia are 10/0
BALL 1: Bilal Khan to Wiese, FOUR, Very full delivery outside off, atttempted wide yorker that is slightly undercooked. Wiese stays deep in his crease and slashes it square of the wicket. Hit with supreme power to get a boundary. Namibia are 4/0
Welcome back!! Bilal Khan to bowl the over. David Wiese on strike, Erasmus on non strike
