Australia won by 4 runs (DLS Method, 17 - over game due to rain, Target 174)

Australia have broken their losing run in T20Is and have probably presented a wake-up call to India, who came here full of confidence but will now have some concerns about their combination. Sets up an exciting series. That's all from us today. This is Sagar Chawla signing off on behalf of Abhinand Raghavendran, MS Ramakrishnan, Sriram and scorer Shashikant Singh. Goodbye!
Adam Zampa, Man of the Match: Stoked. Really good feeling. Virat being the player he is, just thought he was a big wicket at the time. Getting him out, I was really excited. Never trust Carey with his decisions behind the stumps, with his DRS decisions. He got this one right.
Aaron Finch, Australia captain: Thought the boys played really well, especially in the middle overs with the bat. Showed a lot of courage to take it on. Some of our bowling was outstanding under pressure. Never been my strong point at school (maths). Just stuffed it up out there (didn't realise that two of his bowlers already had bowled four overs). He's been practicing a lot (Stoinis). It's one strength he wants to add to his bowling. Going with three frontline quicks, and one all-rounder in Stoinis, he is the one we wanted to do that job at the end. And he did it beautifully.
Virat Kohli, India captain: Lot of Indians came in to support us which is always the case anywhere we play. It was a close game, exciting one for the crowd to watch and for the players as well. Was a see-saw battle. Started well with the bat, fumbled in the middle overs, in the end we thought we'll win with Pant and Karthik but it changed again with Pant's dismissal. He's (Dhawan) a very strong player at the top of the order. Hasn't got a T20 hundred yet, but the way he plays it really benefits the team. That's how it goes in the game. What we can do is learn from them (mistakes) and get back better. On the day, if we can have three-four guys to stand up for the team, that's what we want. Don't have much time to think of things, which can be a good thing as well as a bad thing.
Jacob: I think we can expect quite a bit of debate and discussion about the D/L target after this. Great game nonetheless, and well done to Stoinis for clutching it!
When Karthik remains unbeaten: Eight wins in eight games, when he gets dismissed: Two loses in two games
Dinesh Karthik in T20I runchases (for India) : 31(28)*, 17(12), 4(1)*, 18(12)*, 2(2)*, 39(25)*, 29(8)*, 31(34)*, 0(0)*, 30(13).
First defeat for India in run chase in nine T20Is - last was against NZ in Rajkot
Harsha Bhogle: Guess Karthik will wonder if he should have run the second from the 1'st ball of the over. But top innings in the situation
21:57 Local Time, 11:57 GMT, 17:27 IST: We've got off to a thrilling start to India's tour of Australia, which was decided by a brilliant final over from Marcus Stoinis. Entrusted with the responsibility of defending 13, he used the slower ball to tremendous effect to stop a rampant Dinesh Karthik from taking India over the line. Karthik, who threatened to do a repeat of his most famous T20 knock from the Nidahas Trophy, and who was responsible for bringing this chase back to life through his part in AJ Tye's demolition, eventually perished for 30 off 13 balls. India always looked a step behind Australia, chasing a stiff 174 from 17 overs. That Australia got those many was down to a brilliant partnership between Glenn Maxwell and guess who, Stoinis again. After Kuldeep had caused Australia appreciable discomfort, the pair were severe on some of the others - Khaleel Ahmed and Krunal Pandya in particular. A weak Australian team eh? This performance puts quite a few things in perspective.

Stoinis to Kuldeep Yadav, FOUR, walks across the stumps and paddles this wide of short fine leg, won't stop Australia from taking an early lead in the series. Cracking game of cricket
Stoinis to Bhuvneshwar, 1 run, miscue from Bhuvneshwar, that should be the game. Deceived by the slower ball, he's early into his heave and scoops it up in front of deep midwicket
Stoinis to Bhuvneshwar, wide, banged in short, sails over Bhuvneshwar's head who swings his bat overhead in vain. This slower bouncer, though, gained too much height
Kuldeep Yadav, left handed bat, comes to the crease
Slight drizzle adding to the theatre
Stoinis to Karthik, out Caught by Behrendorff!! Pandya gone, Karthik gone. Stoinis's slower balls are working like magic. Slower short ball outside off, thrusted with the responsibility of creating all his pace for himself, Karthik succumbs. He looks to slap it hard down the ground, but slices it off a thick top-edge owing to the spongy bounce. Caught at long-off. Karthik c Behrendorff b Stoinis 30(13) [4s-4 6s-1]
Stoinis to Karthik, THATS OUT!! Caught!!
Ashish Vijayan: DK @ his best. So many of us had written him off over the years...but since the last one year he has proved himself a Fighter...
Bhuvneshwar Kumar, right handed bat, comes to the crease
Stoinis to Krunal Pandya, out Caught by Maxwell!! That's a brilliant pressure catch from Maxwell, diving forward with both hands at long-on. But he's not the only one holding his cool. What a superb final over this has been from Stoinis too, so far. A slower ball wide of off, which he has executed relentlessly today. Pandya looks to heave leg-side, only to slice this off the outside half. Maxwell may have misjudged it initially, but trust him of all people to recover. Krunal Pandya c Maxwell b Stoinis 2(4)
Stoinis to Krunal Pandya, THATS OUT!! Caught!!
Stoinis to Krunal Pandya, no run, low full toss wide of off.. Now, now. Had Pandya moved across enough to justify the umpire's call of not giving a wide? It's debatable, but probably fair
Change of gloves for Pandya, his hands too sweaty. This is nerve-rattling
