Australian coach Justin Langer would be a very proud man for both his Perth (Scorchers) lads did a mighty fine job playing their first game against India who are high on confidence after the Test series. Wasn't long ago they were dancing at the SCG. Australia will be happy to kickoff the World Cup year on a winning note. Remember they won only 2 of the 13 ODIs last year. And with this win, they've got a terrific opportunity to seal the series in the next game or maybe in the final ODI. The next one's at the Adelaide Oval on Tuesday (15 January). Do remember to tune in for that. Until next time, it's sayonara from Raju Peethala, Ramakrishnan, Nikhil Jadhav, Varun Dixit, Abhinand Raghavendran and our scorer Venky. Have a great rest of the day/evening/night folks. Cheers!!

Jhye Richardson, MoM: They are a quality side. Credit to India as they gave us a run for our money in those middle overs. For a period they had the game under control. When you have a team three down early, it becomes difficult to bounce back. I am very happy to get (Kohli's) wicket, I'll treasure it for a while but more than that, I'm happy with the win. As a bowling unit, we are clear about our plans, doing our homework and research, being professional out there. I think it was about assessing the conditions more than anything else. I didn't need to bowl the slower balls earlier but felt like bashing the wicket was quite difficult to score off. In the end, it became easier to bowl the slower deliveries as the ball got softer. My finger's fine.

Aaron Finch: Yeah, very pleased with the performance. I think the way they rebuilt, Rohit and MS, we knew they will take it deep and we managed to pick up the wickets at the right time. I thought we got a par total, the partnership between Usman Khawaja and Shaun Marsh was very good in the middle overs and Peter played a gem. In the middle period we played really well. We didn't score a lot of runs in the middle overs but we saved the wickets for the final overs. We have powers hitters like Maxi and Stoinis at number 6 and 7. Jhye and Jason are full of confidence, they have great skill sets and both have a good future ahead of them. We can always improve, our execution with the ball was at times off. It will be a good series.

Virat Kohli: We are not very pleased with the way we played. I thought we were fine with the ball, score of 300+ was par on that wicket. We thought 280 was chaseable on that wicket but losing three wickets in such a short span of time is never good. Rohit was outstanding and MS supported him well but we could have done better with the tempo of the game. They took the game deep, deep enough for us to feel we have a chance. MS got out at the wrong time as he was looking to up the scoring rate at that point. If we would have had one more partnership, we would have been close to the target. We lost early wickets and Australia were professional enough to not get us back in. Rayudu got a good ball, Shikhar was out on the first ball so you can't really look too much into it and I hit it sweetly but straight to the fielder. These things happen in ODI cricket but you don't stop playing shots. I think we have to take it as a day on which Australia played better than us. We are not stressed about the results, we need to figure out the things we need to improve as a side. Looking forward to the World Cup, I think every side has to have the best combination. The defeats like these make you aware of the things you need to improve on. We just want to play good cricket and correct our mistake in the next match.

21:21 local,15:51 IST: Australia looked [10-20] short at the halfway mark, but wasn't to be. The selection of Jason Behrendorff and Jhye Richardson worked wonders for the home team. They've pretty much wrecked India's chase inside 4 overs by removing three of India's top four batsmen and gave nothing away during the powerplay overs. India were 21/3 after 10 overs, but Dhoni and Rohit got together to spring some life into this contest as the duo managed a 137-run partnership for the fourth wicket revving up hopes for the Indian fans. Just when things looked promising for India, Dhoni was wrongly adjudged lbw and Rohit just couldn't find any support at the other end. Rohit Sharma = 133; rest of the batsmen = 106. And you don't win too many games with such scorecard reading.

Shaival: A friend asked, Would it have made a difference had Dhoni made a 70 ball 50 against a 96 ball 51? I answered, " Yes it would have, but would also have made a difference had Rayudu not used that review where he was out plumb. "
