India's only practice match ends on a premature note courtesy rain. The outcome is a draw but more than the result, players would be content to get some match practice under their belt with the Dukes on a green track. Shikhar Dhawan had a nightmare of a match and his place is certainly under the threat for the Birmingham Test. His competitor in the team, KL Rahul had a decent outing in both the innings, he came out to open today and showed immaculate technique and exemplary composure against the moving new ball. The spin triplets of Ashwin, Kuldeep and Jadeja were wicketless in the 11 overs they bowled in the match. It will be intriguing to see, whether Kohli opts to play both Kuldeep and Ashwin in the first Test or go with just one of them. The performance of Umesh has made him a certainty in the team and he alongside Ishant Sharma will be in charge of India's pace attack. The presence of Shami, who had an ordinary match would depend on the combination India opts to go with. That's it for the practice match, join us for the first Test on the 1st of August.
