Pakistan, thrashed. New Zealand, thrashed. It's been that kind of a no-contest summer. ** Yawn ** So the Aussies lap up another trophy, the Trans-Tasman one this time. It was fun bringing you this, with constant threats of rain, of haze, of smoke from the bushfires looming around, but just not being good enough to stop the cricket, and I, Vineet Anantharaman, sign off on behalf of Pradeep Krishnamurthy and Sriram AS. Until another summer with hopefully someone to stand up to these home bullies, ta ta!!
Tim Paine | Winning captain: Very lucky to be captain of this group. We have a very special group of people. Having David (Warner) and Steve (Smith) back has strengthened our batting group. The rest of us can learn a lot from them. We are blessed with the guys on the park; Hazlewood gets injured and Pattinson can come in and fill for him. The depth, our hunger; we haven't struggled in the last couple of years to get 20 wickets but we have struggled to get runs. Their return has made us a much more consistent Test side. I think we can still get better. There were moments when we weren't at our best. In the past few months we haven't been reliant on just a few players, and we're pleased with the progress we've made in the last twelve months. We have a tough season coming up and we need to play some very good Test cricket to win those games. It hasn't been a great few weeks for the country and it has been tough to see their struggles. Our goal was to give them some entertainment with our cricket. We are just playing a game and there are people in our country struggling. My thoughts go out to them and to the firefighters.
Kane Williamson | Losing captain (yes, him) : Credit to Tim and the Australian team. They were clinical in all areas and after the first match they put us under pressure session after session. For us it is staying tight, regrouping now. We have a bit of time before the next series and we need to learn our lessons from here. In many departments we were outplayed. The bowling was good but we struggled to put them under pressure for any considerable period of time. With the bat though we just weren't able to stitch up the partnerships. We got exposed by a fantastic bowling attack and it is important that we use this opportunity to learn for the future. Our bench has been a strength of ours. A number of guys have come in and there have been some positive signs. As a captain you are looking at the larger picture and there are boys who want to come here, play their part and improve. It was the first time for many of the boys here in Australia. It is always tough, but you have to use the opportunities to improve. We did have opportunities to put out better performances but we have to move on quickly because international series come quick and fast.
Marnus Labuschagne | MoM | MoS: It's been an amazing summer. We have been playing really well as a team and it is good to see everything come together. The way I hit the ball and the way the batting group has performed has been tremendous. It's so special to share these moments with your family. They are a part of the whole journey and to see them watch the hard work pay off feels great. It's hard to put a finger on something, but just the level of concentration and probably not doing as many silly things was good. It was nice to have some luck as well. I chew a lot of gum, but it has been working, so why change. It will be great to play in India if I get the opportunity. It is nice to travel with this group and I am just taking it as it comes.
David Warner: Credit to the way we started the summer. Obviously, the two Tests against Pakistan and coming here to finish things at the SCG is pretty special. To see Nathon Lyon doing so well and getting his name on the honors board, I am so happy for him. The way we played - batting and bowling was clinical. You know you're capable of doing so (on his personal form); I was in the nets hitting the ball well and had the skipper backing me. To start off the summer with T20s and being able to play with freedom helped me. It's all paying off, excited to contribute to the team. He hasn't lived upto the expectations (about Joe Burns) but we ticked boxes together. He will be more hungry now and hopefully, he'll get some runs under the belt in the BBL.
Nathan Lyon - It's been a great summer for the Australian Test side. Pretty special to be part of it, we have been impressive, pretty clincial, the batters have done well and given us plenty of time. Every Test is special, to take a 10-wicket haul in front of family and friends is something good, It's a big honour to wear the Baggy Green, I am very proud of it. It was a fine catch (Pattinson), I need to go and thank him, the boys were comparing it with the catch taken by Glenn McGrath. We are doing well as a squad, it's a massive carrot (World Test championship crown), we want to be the best team in the world, there's a lot of work to do to get to that level, but we are slowly getting up there.
So the target of 416 was clearly going to be unrealistic on a fourth-innings pitch. But surely it wasn't a two-session survival story. It surely wasn't all that bad. But that's just how dominant the Aussies have been all through this summer. Nathan Lyon kept throwing them in the footholes and ripping them out, Starc blew away the top-order, blew away the tail. And the batsmen were just clueless. Apart from that de Grandomme, Watling wagging towards the end, it was just a case of turning up, being made to look stupid, and walking back. Quite fittingly, it's been the story of the summer. Anyway, hang around, lots of interviews and the official presentations are being lined up ..
17:52 Local Time, 06:52 GMT, 12:22 IST: Okay Matt Henry is padded up. But the Kiwi team management - sensibly - have felt that his broken thumb is a lot more important to risk over a few runs lesser in the scorecard's defeat margin. 279 runs then, not bad. It's not a defeat, it's firmly in the thumping zone. Just to put things into context, there's not been a single day in this entire series when the New Zealanders have not bowled. Not one. Yes, see, thumping. Nathan Lyon will lead them out here, surviving his mobbing team-mates to grab a stump first. Ah, priorities.
Lyon to Watling, out Caught by Pat Cummins!! That'll be it. Tomorrow's a holiday, and Australia keep up their tradition of finishing off every damn match over the entire summer inside four days. What an advertisement! Watling looks to sweep one from well outside off, but doesn't quite keep it down. Hits it flat, with a funky close in backward square leg waiting out there. And Nathan Lyon didn't have a fifer at the SCG until this Test, and by the end of it, has two .. Watling c Pat Cummins b Lyon 19(108)
Lyon to Watling, THATS OUT!! Caught!!
Lyon to Watling, no run, gets hurried up with the in-spin now to tuck it away to square leg
Lyon to Watling, no run, falls over on his leave. Hah, comical stuff. Stretches, loses balance with his center of gravity going haywire, but it's harmless outside off to be causing trouble
Lyon to Watling, no run, raches out to the pitch of it in pushing out to cover
Lyon to Watling, no run, an early shuffle, using the spin to tuck away to short leg
Neil Wagner, left handed bat, comes to the crease

Starc to Somerville, out Bowled!! Trust him and his ability to blow away tails. In a world where Starc is king, only dobermen would exist among dogs. It's the yorker, fiery enough at 142kph and bang at the base of middle. Yea, just too good for a number nine to jam his bat down to it in time. Lets it through, ripping out the stump, the stump-mic and all of the underground wire. Somerville b Starc 7(5) [4s-1]
Starc to Somerville, THATS OUT!! Bowled!!
Starc to Watling, 1 run, uses the in-angle to nudge away softly to fine leg
Starc to Somerville, 3 runs, 145.2kph, full, but still wide. Somerville leans out there with a square drive through point. Labuschagne - the gully - has to chase, slide
Starc to Somerville, FOUR, a tired short ball -- wide, not kicking up, and is slapped uppishly over point with a jump. Not bad!
