So that's that from this first ODI. The jerseys were good, but the cricket wasn't top notch. Both teams will return on Sunday for the second ODI. It's a day game and we hope to have a better pitch in store - a pitch that has some assistance for the bowlers, yet is good for batting. Stay clean and healthy. Goodbye!
Mitchell Marsh | Player of the Match: Pleased to get the win at the start of the series. We were disappointed to lose 0-3 to South Africa. We were pumped to get out here and win today. It was not a 300 wicket. The opening partnership set us up beautifully.
Kane Williamson: It was a tough wicket. They had an above-par score. That opening partnership gave them a very competitive total. Australia were too good today, tough outing for us. We had to be a bit more tight with our lines and extend partnerships with the bat. The spinners did well and slowed things down in the middle overs.
Aaron Finch: It was a crucial toss to win on a dry surface. We bowled well in the powerplay and restricted New Zealand. We both had to adjust to the slowness of the wicket. You had to pick your moments on this wicket.
21:28 Local Time, 10:28 GMT, 15:58 IST: Both teams are doing virtual handshakes, fist-bumps, elbow tucks. Smiles in both camps. To be very honest, one didn't get the feel of the usual real competitive international game feel today. The sluggish pitch didn't help either. Would be really interesting to hear from the players. New Zealand never got going in the chase. Test match line and length was all the bowlers needed to bowl. Stroke-making was difficult. CdG and Latham were the only ones who could connect the ball decently. Guptill struggled his way to 40, but Adam Zampa troubled the Black Caps with his variations. Cummins and Marsh varied their pace to share six wickets between them.
