So that wraps up our coverage of the first Test. Bangladesh spinners were far superior to New Zealand, helping the hosts register a 1-0 lead in this two-match series. Lots to think for the visitors going into Dhaka. Will they turn to Rachin Ravindra and Mitchell Santner for the next Test that begins on Wednesday? We'll have to wait and see. That's it for now. Until next time, it's goodbye!
Najmul Hossain Shanto: Credit goes to all the players. Taijul, Miraz, Shoriful, Nayeem - they bowled very well. Everyone enjoyed this match. We're not thinking of result, just following the process. For me, first innings we could've scored 50-80 runs more. Now I'm thinking of the next Test. For me, half job done. Still a long way to go.
Taijul Islam is Player of the Match. Unable to bring his quotes as he is speaking in Bengali.
Tim Southee: Credit to Bangladesh. They played well and are a very good side in these conditions. As a bowling group, we needed to sustain pressure. It was a pretty good wicket. Took a bit of spin which you expect in this part of the world. We'll reflect on this and try to be better in the next game. Everyone's striving to always improve their game and get better.
A match to remember for Shanto on debut as Test captain and Bangladesh will be a contented outfit. Meanwhile, questions for New Zealand and they will be looking at a few team changes for the next game in Dhaka. The presentations are next, stay tuned.
10:59 Local Time, 04:59 GMT, 10:29 IST: Bangladesh win and go 1-0 up. It was not going to last too long today but New Zealand have extended the game for 90 minutes before their resistance ended. Mitchell played his shots and fell to a sweep, while Southee too came out and looked to be aggressive. Ish Sodhi on the other hand looked to defend whatever was thrown his way. But on a turner it was too much of an ask on the final day to expect New Zealand to get anywhere near the target of 332. Taijul Islam the star with a six-fer and 10 for the match. The others chipped in nicely as well. Earlier after both the first innings were almost equal it was Shanto's ton in the 2nd innings that proved to be decisive. He was helped by handy contributions from Mominul, Mushfiqur and Mehidy. A good toss to win for Bangladesh and as expected the pitch helped the spinners. Batting last was going to be difficult and so it proved. New Zealand were behind even in the first innings but a Kane Williamson masterclass ton helped them eke out a 7-run lead. But Shanto's aggressive innings after his side were reduced to 26/2 was crucial. In the last innings Taijul Islam and the others ensured the win was complete with runs behind them.
Taijul Islam to Ish Sodhi, out Caught by Zakir Hasan!! Fittingly Taijul Islam finishes it off. It's also his ten-fer. A sharp good length delivery on leg, turns and bounces from there, Ish Sodhi can only pop a simple catch to silly-point off the glove and a bit of the shoulder of the bat. A historic victory for Bangladesh who have beaten New Zealand for the first time at home. Ish Sodhi c Zakir Hasan b Taijul Islam 22(91) [4s-2]
