Despite losing close to five sessions, the Dhaka Test has ended inside four days. While there'll be plenty of talks regarding the pitch, New Zealand will be pleased with the way they bounced back after losing the first Test by 150 runs. On a track where almost every batter struggled, Glenn Phillips managed to score 87(72) and 40*(48). He also fittingly hit the winning runs. For Bangladesh, it's another opportunity missed. After registering their first Test win against NZ at home in the opening Test, they had a chance to record their first-ever Test series win against them. They won a crucial toss and the conditions definitely suited their style of play. However, Phillips proved to be a thorn in the flesh for them in both the innings. On that note, it's time to bring the curtains down on this series. It's Bangladesh's turn to now tour New Zealand for some white-ball cricket - 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is - commencing on December 17. For now, it's goodbye from all of us down here..
The two captains receive the trophy from Nazmul Hassan - President of Bangladesh Cricket Board. The two teams now pose for the photographs. Bangladesh 1-1 New Zealand!
Tim Southee: It was a a bit of scrape there, nice to come out on the right side of it. The guys just trusted the way they play. If you look at the likes of Glenn Phillips and Mitch Santner, it was more of an attacking style to some of the others. Just trusting their games and on this surface, you can still play your way. At times, especially in the first innings, Bangladesh showed it as well. It was one of those wickets, it was a matter of time before one had your name on it. Credit goes to the guys for trusting their styles. Glenn Phillips, in the first innings, kept us in the match. It's not easy when expectations are for things to happen quickly. The bowlers stuck to their plans. Ajaz coming away with a six-fer is a great reward for that. Nice to win, especially on a surface like that. .

Glenn Phillips | Player of the Match: That eight runs mattered a lot. We pride ourselves on fighting for as long as possible and keeping ourselves in the game. I think we did that. Our spinners did incredibly well and obviously Tim (Southee) with the ball, it was great to create a lot of pressure. The Bangladeshi boys came out with a little bit of intent as well. To restrict them to chasing 137 was very pleasing. The intent was there (in the second innings), was trying to sticking to my game plan as much as possible. If I can put the bowler off his length, that's gonna make it a little bit easier. for us. The way Mitch batted and Daryl with his intent ... helped along. (On Santner) He's got amazing hands, such a fluent player. We talked a little bit at tea about what sort of plan we wanted to go out with. Credit to him and credit to all the boys throughout this whole game.
Najmul Hossain Shanto: The bowlers did a great job,, All four bowlers bowled well. Very proud how everyone chipped in the field. First match, we played really good cricket, it gives us a lot of confidence. This match we had our opportunities, we couldn't take them. Hope we learn from this match and we play some good cricket. The players are ready (for the upcoming series in New Zealand), the ODI players are practising, I hope everyone plays some good cricket there.
After conceding a 7-run lead, Bangladesh scored 338 in their second essay at Sylhet. But they could only muster 144 here in Dhaka. Zakir Hasan top-scored with 59 but he didn't receive much support from his team-mates. Ajaz finished with a 6-fer and the Kiwis needed 137 runs to square the series. The chase was always going to be a tricky one. Shoriful nipped out Conway and the Taijul-Mehidy duo came to the party to reduce NZ to 69/6. That's when Santner (who didn't play the first Test) joined the hero of the first innings - Phillips. The duo coupled aggression with some sensible batting to take their team home. Punished anything loose, took calculated risks and batted with great temperament as they stitched an unbeaten 70-run match-winning stand. Stick around for the presentations...
Southee turned to spin after five overs on the opening day and the first ball from Ajaz Patel turned a long way with extra bounce. At that very instant, everyone knew that spinners would rule the roost in this Test. While the two left-arm NZ spinners picked up two wickets apiece in the first session, it was Mushfiqur's brain fade movement (obstructing the field by handling the ball) that triggered a collapse as Bangladesh got bundled out for 172. The hosts, thanks to their spinners, fought back and reduced the Kiwis to 46/5. The game had progressed at a rate of knots on the first day itself. The next four sessions got washed out without any play. Less than 32 overs were bowled on day three but there was plenty of action. NZ, who were tottering at 97/7, managed to take a lead of 8 runs, thanks to Glenn Phillips's counterattacking 72-ball 87. Just like the first Test, after the first two innings, there was hardly anything to separate the two sides.
15:12 Local Time, 09:12 GMT, 14:42 IST: New Zealand have levelled the series 1-1. Jubilation in their camp. They have shown a lot of character in this Test under testing conditions.
