Pakistan have plenty to ponder about if they have to go back home with a win. The tour only gets tougher as Azhar Ali might be ruled out with an hamstring injury. Will they be able to turn it around in less than 48 hours? Join us back on Sunday to find out. For now, goodbye and cheers!
Steven Smith: "It was a pretty average start. We were in a bit of a hurry. But Matthew Wade played an exceptional innings to get his first ODI hundred. I thought 270 was a par total. We bat all the way down, Starc is batting at no. 10 and we saw how destructive he can be (in the Test series). If we come off we are going to post big scores, but need to be smart at the top. The bowlers got the job done, took the pace off the ball and bowled beautifully to defend that target."
Azhar Ali: "It is a bit sore and hopefully I can get it recovered soon. We will have a better assessment tomorrow. If I get better, I can take part in the next game. Full credit to the bowlers, we were very good in the first half. Credit to Wade as well for batting brilliantly. I think 260 was very much chaseable, but we kept losing wickets regularly. It was pretty hot and the outfield was very long, we had to run a lot, but as professionals we can't make excuses."
Matthew Wade is the Man of the Match - "Feels great. It was challenging at the top. We found ourselves in a little bit of trouble, but Maxi took the pressure off me. I was not watching the ball in the last over and was swinging way too hard. I thought it (target) was going to be (enough). But we had to bowl and field well. It doesn't taste great (pickle juice). The captain likes it more than me."
The chase was always going to be difficult for Pakistan, at least keeping their past record in mind. Sharjeel and Azhar Ali got them off to a safe start, but a mini delay in play broke the partnership. From thereon it was a downward slide. Babar Azam and Umar Akmal showed some promise, but once the latter got out it was hard to stop the wicket-flow. Faulkner was the most effective Australian bowler (4/32), he varied it smartly to register his best figures in ODIs and was well support by Cummins (3/33).
Pat Cummins to Riaz, out Caught by Starc!! Australia win by 92 runs. All the Australians run towards Starc, who was the catcher. Hand shakes all around and a happy Australian unit leaves the field. The full delivery was outside off, Riaz bent low and toe-ended the loft towards mid-off. Starc moved sideways and completed the formalities. Riaz c Starc b Pat Cummins 6(8)
