It was lovely bringing you this enthralling, albeit truncated contest from the Saxton Oval, Nelson. It could have been closer and more exciting, had rain not marred the run-chase. Nevertheless, we look forward to bringing you the next ODI in this series where Pakistan will have to play out of their skins. Until then, this is Rishi Roy signing off on behalf of Sriram and Mukesh, and switching to T20 mode - that's right, it's Big Bash time! Cheerio!
Kane Williamson, winning captain: "Yeah, it was a brilliant performance by our boys. It was an interesting game and it panned out well for us. The boys were brilliant in the first innings with the ball, but Pakistan showed some good resistance with their lower-order and formed some partnerships. Our batsmen did well especially after the rain-break which worked in our favour a little bit. Martin (Guptill) and (Ross) Taylor both looked in fine touch and got us home. Martin playing with that kind of freedom was great to watch. (About complacency on a winning streak) We are playing a good team, and we're getting into a winning habit. Hopefully we can continue it in the upcoming games as well."
Sarfraz Ahmed, losing captain: I think it's a very disappointing performance. Our batting didn't perform today and our lower-order bailed us out. The momentum was high before the rain break; we will work on our batting. We lost too many wickets in the first 10 overs. We will bounce back in the next game.
Martin Guptill, player of the match: We got off to a good start, losing Colin early wasn't ideal. To get a win after a rain delay was pleasant. I spent my time with the physio during the break. Taylor is a calming influence and good to spend time with him and seal off the run-chase.
19:16 Local Time, 06:16 GMT, 11:46 IST: A fine contest was setup by the Pakistan lower-order and Hafeez after a top-order collapse and NZ were set 247 to win. After getting the key wickets of Williamson and Munro, Pakistan were clearly ahead. However, rain played spoilsport in the 100th match party between the two sides as the Kiwis were set a revised target. Martin Guptill and Ross Taylor laid into the attack with a flurry of sixes after the rain delay to polish off the target with 7 balls to spare. So, New Zealand go 2-0 up in this five-match series, and Pakistan will have to make an extraordinary comeback in the next three games if they are to win this series.
