But he also had two spinners - Ajaz Patel and Will Somerville - bowling out of their skins as well. Ajaz scripted the turnaround in the first game and Will Somerville, making his debut at 34 owned the final Test. Tim Southee after serving drinks for the first two Tests made vital inroads to help his team win the silverware. For Pakistan, they would hope this is just a hiccup. But of late has been a common phenomenon especially in the final innings of a Test. And the recent surrender ensured Mohammad Hafeez's Test career ends on a dismal note. He had a hit and miss career in the whites but when on song, was a treat to the eyes. An all-rounder, he added to the balance of the team and that will be sorely missed. What you guys won't miss is the non stop cricketing action. Switch tabs to munch on more scores. For now, this is Kumar Abhisekh Das and Sriram AS wishing you good bye on behalf of Varun Dikshit and Reddy for their invaluable contribution in the coverage of this game.

Kane Williamson and his boys have done something monumental. A steal at Abu Dhabi a couple of weeks ago and this time a convincing win, this venue has been special for the visitors. They started off the tour with a 0-3 loss in the T20Is and then clung on to the ODI series 1-1 thanks to rain washing away the last ODI. And in the whites, the Black Caps were fantastic. They swallowed a bitter pill at Dubai but have bounced and how! Led by an able skipper and one of the best batters of his generation, New Zealand thoroughly deserve this series win. Skipper Kane tallied 386 runs and stood out from the rest as has been the case so many times.

Kane Williamson, New Zealand captain and Man of the Match: I didn't wait for 49 years (smiles) -- when asked about his wait for the series win against Pakistan away from home which came in 1969. Fantastic performance to be a part of. Pakistan are a very difficult team to beat and showed how strong they are in Dubai. We knew there was a lot of hard work to do. After the first innings, we felt we had a good total but Pakistan came back well. To get a good second innings target and to come out today to perform like that was superb. The spinners came on this tour and showed their experience, which was massive for us. It was just about coming out and bucking down (on his performance). We (himself and Nicholls) were able to get that partnership and a bit of momentum as well. To come out here and to perform the way we did was special. We will remember this win for a long time. I want to wish Hafeez on his fantastic career as well. He's been a great player for Pakistan.

Sarfraz Ahmed, Pakistan captain: As a batting unit we have failed to get big lead in this series, this is the main reason of our defeat. Our lower order has done a lot of hard work but unfortunately they haven't contributed as we would have liked. We have failed in 4-5 matches now on fifth day. We need to work on playing against the new ball in second innings. We need to be mentally tough, specially on the final day of the match. We need to be positive in South Africa to win, it's a difficult away series.

Yasir Shah, Man of the Series: I am happy as I am the Man of the series. I wanted to bowl in good areas consistently. I saw some videos too and I am grateful that I got my rhythm back. I don't look at records. I am pretty disappointed as we have not won the series.

New Zealand also unearthed another hero in this game in the form of Will Somerville. A 7-fer wrecked havoc in the opposition camp. If it was Ajaz Patel in the first Test, it has been Somerville in this Test. Their first win in Asia in 10 years as well. In hindsight, Pakistan could have applied themselves better but on day 5 things happen and the hosts fell prey to a patented medicine that they have used so well against umpteen oppositions. Hang back for the presentation.

What scenes! Absolutely amazing. The New Zealand players are smiling from ear to ear. The party will go on for long. A series win in Asia in this decade and that too against a team like Pakistan is a massive statement. But the Kiwis have been unstoppable. They might have had limited resources but like their skipper, they have played economical cricket as a group and the end result is a resounding win. And not the ideal farewell to Mohammad Hafeez. His Test career ends on a sad note. The collapse in this innings began with him and has ended pretty timidly for them.

Ajaz Patel to Hasan Ali, out Caught by Williamson!! The skipper takes it. Can it be a more fitting end? He has been the standout performer for them. That was flighted up, the batsman went for the heave and sliced it for the man at backward point to come in and take it. The Kiwis win the series 2-1. They win this marathon encounter by 123 runs. This is their first series win against Pakistan (away from home) since 1969. Hasan Ali c Williamson b Ajaz Patel 4(7) [4s-1]

Ajaz Patel to Hasan Ali, THATS OUT!! Caught!!

Jeet Raval did not have his sunglasses on and that might have gone against him.

Ajaz Patel to Babar Azam, out Caught by Southee!! And Babar Azam has run out of patience. The field came in, Babar Azam decided to dance out and loft it but only managed to slice it up in the air. The man at mid-off ran back and takes it over his head. Superb take from Southee. He has delivered with the ball and now on the field. The coach of New Zealand - Gary Stead - is chuffed. New Zealand are on the verge of a historic win. Babar Azam c Southee b Ajaz Patel 51(114) [4s-5]
