Joe Root couldn't have asked for a better start to his captaincy reign! So that wraps up this Lord's Test, with South Africa looking like they need a massive improvement to make this series competitive. We'll see if Faf du Plessis can rally his troops at Nottingham. For now, this is Sagar Chawla signing off on behalf of Srivathsa and Praveen. Goodbye!

Match summary: Joe Root took the supposed pressures associated with captaincy and knocked them out of the park with a stunning hundred on day one. He had won the toss and elected to bat, only to find the team reeling at 77/4. But along with Stokes, and then Moeen Ali, Root was able to power his team from a position of peril to one of strength with a 450-plus score on a dry Lord's pitch. South Africa were left to rue their missed opportunities - and there were plenty of them. The enormity of the task hit them with the bat, as Ali spun his way to a four-for. The lead of 97 was expected to be plenty, but with the bowlers leading a stunning fightback with seven wickets on the fourth morning, South Africa somehow kept themselves alive. However, Ali bowled beautifully again to claim his first five-for at Lord's as the visitors collapsed to a mighty defeat.

Ali: Definitely the best all-round performance of my career. Very happy today. Great wicket. Even in the first innings, I tried to attack the batsmen as much as I can. I learnt a lot from the India tour. I'd like to dedicate this to Saqlain. He helps a lot with my mindset when going into bowl. No, not really. It's more a mindset. This was like a fresh start for me with the new captain. It's a nice time to come in to bat at No. 7, the new ball is around the corner most of the time. You can play a few shots. Dawson bowled really well today. He was unlucky not to get more wickets. Today, things went my way. In the future, I'm sure things will go his way.

Moeen Ali is Player of the Match

Root: Great start. Everything I asked the lads this week, they did. And they responded very well. It's obviously nice to get those runs. Bit of a monkey off the back to get one out of the way. Throughout the game we had some vital partnerships. The way Moeen played in the first innings put pressure straight back on South Africa. And then he managed to bowl consistently with aggressive fields. Throughout the whole game everyone contributed at some point along the way. That's a pleasing sign. I think a lot of credit has to go to the three guys who played last night and made that wicket a lot easier. Their knocks were probably worth double. They showed a lot of character and got stuck in.

Elgar: It's good to see him (Faf) back. Very disappointed with the way things turned out this afternoon, but good to see his face again. Definitely, anything under 300 would have been a good shot. Late runs by the last two wickets pushed that over the boundary a bit. You can break this game down in so many ways. Two, three occasions on day one, we could have got a lot less runs against us. It's professional cricket, and quality players will make you pay if you make those errors. We need to be a little harder on ourselves and take it from there. A lot of the guys who are in the Test side weren't part of the previous disappointments. Hopes are still high. It's only one game, we can change it from here. I don't think me complaining about it will change anything, but it's a massive loss to international cricket. KG missing one Test is a big thing. He's a big player within our ranks with the ball. But it's an opportunity for someone else. Vernon bowled this morning and seemed to be pain-free. It just looks like when he's batting, it's a bit sore.

South Africa had an excellent first session on day one, and a sensational first session today. But barring those two sessions, they've looked as ordinary as we've seen from them in a while, especially in the field. They've been shocking in the field to be quite honest. And boy have they paid for those mistakes. Joe Root, after being dropped early a couple of times, went on to make a stunning hundred to give England a score which was well above par. The whole story of this match could have been different otherwise. The visitors have looked lacking in experience in their batting, and Faf du Plessis's availability for Nottingham should bolster that department a fair bit. We'll be back shortly with the presentations..

17:33 Local Time, 16:33 GMT, 22:03 IST: Plenty of smiles in the England camp as they wrap up a huge victory in front of a packed Sunday crowd. Everyone expected this pitch to be very difficult to negotiate in the fourth innings, and so it has proved, as South Africa have collapsed for 119. And now can we all start rating Moeen Ali as a serious off-spinner? Ten wickets in the match for him, along with useful runs in the first innings. Him and Joe Root were the two real star performers for England.
