Bengaluru, Chinnaswamy stadium, short boundaries, high-scoring venue, cracker of a game in store many thought, but South Africa stole the thunder. They proved it's more about application than experience. They had the right plan with the ball - to bowl into the slowish pitch and take pace off - and kept India down to a below-par total. The dew then came in and eased the pitch a bit for batting, but take nothing away from QdK, who timed the ball so well. The T20s are done, we move on to the most demanding format. The Test series begins on October 2 in Visakhapatnam. See you all with the red ball in hand. Tata!
Quinton de Kock | South African captain | Player of the Series: I think we kept it nice and simple with the ball, hitting the good length. Beuran came in and bowled really well, he read the situation right tonight. We fixed one or two things quickly with the ball from the last game, for them to act quickly was a positive for me. The intensity and the fielding parts are also things that really impressed me. As long as the boys are hungry, I am perfectly happy with that.
Virat Kohli | Indian captain: Exactly what we wanted to do. This is the template we want to follow before the World T20. We should be able to find the answers. South Africa bowled really well, the pitch suited them really well in the first innings. In T20 cricket chasing is relatively easier because in other formats you need to bat longer and string partnerships, here a decent partnership of 40-50 in no time can take the game away from you. We will try to get the squad composition right as soon as we can. At the moment the guys who have done well in domestic cricket are getting opportunities. It's not like we are playing random people. They have done well to be here and they are good enough. We will have odd games like these as well, we have got to understand that this is a young side as well. I think we will have to give them a bit of time to come together. We batted till 9 tonight, so that's one area we are looking to strengthen and go into the big tournament with the best possible combination.
Beuran Hendricks | Player of the Match: It was one of those days where things worked for me, so used my opportunity well. Lot of hard work put in behind the scene, so happy with that. Normally I don't look at the pitch while warming up. Consistency is the key.
Temba Bavuma: I got my T20 debut at a time I didn't expect it. The coaches and selectors have shown a lot of faith in me. It was upto me to pay them back. I think it is just the intensity, to have the mindset to score, as I don't have the powers like Gayle or someone, pick up singles and twos is my game. I surprised myself there (with the six). Lot of confidence within this young team. Our goal was to draw the T20 series and we have managed to do that. We can take the confidence from it into the Test series which is going to be tough.

The target was modest, so South Africa were in no hurry. Took their time, yet managed to get the timely boundaries to frustrate India. Saini had a poor outing with the ball as his extra pace aided QdK to up the ante. The finger spinners were mostly darting the ball around and probably there was a bit of dew as well to make life easy for batsmen. Eventually, South Africa coasted to victory with 9 wickets and 19 balls to spare.
22:04 Local Time, 16:34 GMT, 22:04 IST: A well rounded effort from the Proteas. Big smile on the captain's face exchanging pleasantries with his Mumbai Indians mates. Kohli surprised everyone by opting to bat first. But his view was very clear - said it's a good chasing ground, but wanted to test the team batting first with the World T20 in mind. India did actually well to get off to a good start, but the Proteas understood pace off the ball was the key on this dry surface. Beuran Hendricks and Bjorn Fortuin were spot on, although Radaba got a bit of stick initially. None apart from Dhawan could get a hang of the surface and India struggled at the death to time the slower balls.
