Phew. Some game this. All of us here are still heady with the madness that hit us. A pendulum right through but in the end it keeps South Africa's 12-match winning streak alive. Sets up the next one at Christchurch brillantly. Just a caution: that ground is even smaller. For now, this is Vineet Anantharaman venturing out on behalf of Pradeep Krishnamurthy and Venkatesh. Ta ta!!

Quinton de Kock has been adjudged the Man of the Match for his knock of 69 off 64 balls

Southee provided an explosion in the final over with the bat and it was returned to him at the end when he came on to bowl. But had it not been for that burst with the blade, the Kiwis might never have been able to stretch the contest this far. The Man of the Match in just a bit..

Delicious. You really couldn't have asked for anything better. A perfect start to the series. South Africa equal their best ever winning streak in ODIs with this win. All courtesy this 54-run stand between ABD and Phehlukwayo. Despite the Proteas losing their way big time in the middle stages, these two got together and started off stitching on a single-gathering stand before exploding and snatching the win. A remarkable feat for at one stage it looked like we might never have got a game in the first place.

4

Southee to de Villiers, FOUR, oh AB. He's rescued his side from the doldrums. Southee under all the pressure misses the yorker and and goes at full pace too. A smash over his head seals the deal. Ensures that his side doesn't choke

33.4

Southee to Phehlukwayo, leg byes, 1 run, tails back in sharply and grabs the body after missing

33.3

Southee to Phehlukwayo, no run, responds with a perfect yorker. Pin point accuracy. Just cannot get the bat down in time to dig it out

33.2

6

Southee to Phehlukwayo, SIX, Phehlukwayo you beauty. Just when we expected AB to take on the mantle of finishing this innings, Phehlukwayo decides to show us a glimpse of his powers. Southee getting too predictable with his slower bouncers isn't going to fox Phehlukwayo on this occasion. He hangs back, stands tall and just jabs it it right into the long-on stands

33.2

Southee to de Villiers, 2 wides, bumps it in. The slower one too. The forehand smash just cannot get up to make the connection. And they steal the single as well. Oh my. I cannot watch this

A conference. Mid pitch and at the bowler's mark. Here we go

33.1

Southee to Phehlukwayo, byes, 1 run, the slow bouncer. Perfectly disguised. A swing and a miss follows. But the ever alert man at the other end sneaks a bye in. And gets the strike

Tim Southee [5.0-0-31-2] is back into the attack

12 off the final six deliveries

Boult

7-0-45-1

32.6

Boult to de Villiers, 2 runs, flirting around with the tramline. But AB after giving himself room is made to reach out. Stabs it to sweeper and a wayward throw and a dive from Phehlukwayo ensures the second. AB loses strike though. A decent trade off

32.5

Boult to de Villiers, no run, the perfect yorker. Gets it wide, makes de Villiers stretch and miss

32.4

Boult to Phehlukwayo, 1 run, right in the blockhole again. A sharp in-curler. Dug out to cover and AB, with his nitros takes on the fielder and his shy

32.3

6

Boult to Phehlukwayo, SIX, Phehlukwayo connects. And he connects big time. Reaps maximum benefits. Boult misses the yorker by a few inches and that gives him enough time to get under this one to tonk it through the line

32.2

Boult to Phehlukwayo, no run, swings through the line. Right on the money once again is Boult. Keeps tailing in and pitches right next to the stump line to seam away. Oh dear. Some serious skill set here from the senior pro

32.1

Boult to de Villiers, 1 run, right in that widehole. In the crease and de Villiers has to make his peace with squeezing this one out

22 runs in the final two overs. Trent Boult to bowl out.
