A clinical show from New Zealand as they clinch the series 2-0 and create history! Williamson was once again as solid as a rock for them and Ravindra is creating a reputation of his own! ORourke was impressive on his debut. Once South Africa sent across a highly inexperienced second string squad to the New Zealand shores, they were written off even before they stepped on to the field. They were off-colour in the first Test but showed sparks of brilliance in the second Test. Bedingham is a fine prospect for them while Piedt showed that he has still got what it takes to succeed at the highest level. That's it from our side. We hope you enjoyed our live coverage. Until then, goodbye and cheers!
We witnessed an outstanding knock from Bedingham who went on to score his maiden Test hundred and Petersen in the lower middle-order played the perfect foil to him. It seemed that those two will take the game away from the hosts but another collapse followed. The visitors lost 6/33 and were bundled out for 235 with ORourke at the helm of things once again as he took a fifer. NZ were set a target of 267. Conway failed to make a mark once again. Latham and Ravindra got off to starts but couldn’t turn them into something substantial. After the latter fell, SA had a glimmer of hope! But, the ever-reliable Williamson soaked in all the pressure and showed tremendous tenacity. KW went on to score his third century of the series and got able support from Young who raised a fifty of his own. Eventually, the Kiwis pulled off a record chase at Seddon Park with consumate ease.
18:08 Local Time, 05:08 GMT, 10:38 IST: Quite a comfortable victory for New Zealand eventually but they were under pressure in certain periods during this Test. After quite a lacklustre show in the opening Test, the Proteas showed their calibre in this game. Had it not been for their inexperience, things could have been much tighter. South Africa won the toss and chose to bat on a greenish surface, something which was contrary to expectations. A few batters got starts but couldn’t capitalise on those. Ruan de Swardt in the lower order scored a gritty fifty. William ORourke shone with the ball in his debut innings. The hosts were in good shape but a collapse brought the visitors roaring back into the contest. Piedt took a fifer while Paterson was incisive as well. Wagner played a cameo to reduce the deficit but SA managed to gain a slender lead of 31 runs.
Tshepo Moreki to Williamson, FOUR, that's the winning shot! First-ever series victory for New Zealand over South Africa in Test cricket! The on-air comms mention that it has taken them 92 years and 18 attempts to achieve the series win. Was a fullish ball outside off, Williamson drives it imperiously past extra cover to find the fence. Brilliant knock from Williamson and he once again stood tall when his team needed it! Customary handshakes all around. NZ win the series 2-0
