Not quite a thrilling ODI this, but South Africa won't mind one bit. Sri Lanka will have to do something to reverse their fortunes. As Mathews remarked, they will have to start thinking out of the box and play some fearless cricket to put all the criticism to bed. Else, we might soon find Sri Lanka playing qualifier games. I know that's quite a bold statement to say, but a gander at Sri Lanka's record in the last couple of years only adds fizz to my notion. [The last time they won a bilateral ODI series at home was in November 2015 (vs Windies)] . That's all we've got folks. Hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend. Until next time, this Raju Peethala waving goodbye on behalf of Abhinand Raghavendran, Sriram AS and Siva Duraisamy. Ta-ta!!
Faf du Plessis, Proteas Captain: Brilliant today. The batting was fantastic. The guys kept batting aggressively. To see someone play like that on debut was remarkable and that's the great thing about our batting line-up. We have guys putting their hands up every game and putting match-winning performances. Today obviously less spin, but slightly two-paced. We just keep taking wickets with the ball which is the best way to keep the scoring in check. It's about giving guys opportunities and we will try and do the same in the next two as well. I will see how my young (*chuckles*) shoulder reacts tomorrow and assess from there.
Mathews, Sri Lanka captain: Pretty disappointed with the way we started with the ball. Last 10 overs didn't go to plan. 360 was a bit too high on this track. We didn't execute our plans. We want to look forward and get better as a team. Lot of positives in Dhananjaya and Lahiru Kumara, they showed some fight, but Reeza played superbly and JP finished well. We need to try and think out of the box if we are to win a game. As a team we need to play on good wickets and win. Still got two games to go and if we can win those, it would be ideal.
Reeza Hendricks, Man of the Match: I played T20 cricket before, but this was a lot different. I was very happy to make my debut today and most importantly contribute for my team. It's quite difficult to breakthrough into this South African side, quite fortunate today and I managed to score some runs. Wicket was very good and the boys played very well. It's quite similar to back home and as batsmen we were quite happy with that. I didn't know that (when asked if he knew that his knock was the fastest ODI ton by a debutant).
17:54 local: Sri Lanka's ODI miseries multiply with each passing series. Dhananjaya de Silva achieved his highest score in ODI cricket and that has been the only shining light in an otherwise sorry-looking scorecard. They lost 4 wickets inside 12 overs and the move to promote Thisara Perera didn't produce the desired outcome either. The partnership between Dhananjaya de Silva and Akila Dananjaya - 95 - only proved to be effective in reducing the defeat margin. The track was a belter and Sri Lanka will, most definitely, feel that they've missed out on a great opportunity here. Ngidi and Phehlukwayo shared seven wickets between them. In contrast, the hosts' frontline pacers could only manage 2. You know where the game's lost, ain't it?
Lungi Ngidi to Lakmal, out Caught&Bowled!! South Africa seal the series with 2 games to go. What an emphatic turnaround this has been from the Proteas. Meanwhile, this is Sri Lanka's 11th straight loss to South Africa in ODIs. The end: Lakmal pulls a short ball high into the air, it kept swirling for an eternity...Ngidi calls for it and plucks it safely, QDK too came rushing in for the catch, but Ngidi completed the catch sans any fuss. QDK pointed his mitts towards the sky, but he could only reach as far as Ngidi's chest. In the end, they share a smile and hug briefly before the mandatory handshakes. Lakmal c and b Lungi Ngidi 12(15) [4s-1]
