So that's that for the first Test. The next game starts on the 23rd of May in Mirpur. Hopefully a better pitch than this one for that game. On that note, we are signing off. On behalf of Nikhil, Vineeth and our scorer Vinod, take care and be well. See you soon for more action. Till next time, it's a ta, ta!
Angelo Mathews | MoM: Was disappointing obviously, I just had to get one run and get off strike, it was unfortunate. It was batting-friendly but they didn't give us freebies, for me personally I had to work very hard, I had to concentrate, concentrate, concentrate, with the heat and humidity was not easy. They bowled really well. Without the partners you can't get to 199, they also dug deep. Unfortunate they did not get big scores. I'm hopeful they will in the next game.
Angelo Mathews is named the Player of the Match for his 199 in the 1st innings.
Mominul Haque: I always smile because I have to smile [on being told that he was smiling while coming to talk]. We played really well, the batsmen and bowlers did their job teamwise. Second innings was a bit diappointed, Shakib bowled really well, Nayeem after a long time he played, bowled really well. He knows his role, he knows the conditions and how he has to bowl [on Taijul]. Still we have to improve, every area we have to improve a lot.
Dimuth Karunaratne: We could not do much better in the 1st innings. Then the pitch turned that's why we were in trouble. The fast bowlers did a great job, in this heat it's not easy, they put their hands up, our spinners did a good job in patches, they will learn fom this game and look to improve. We always play for a win, the shot selecton is a crucial thing, we lose wickets due to bad shots. It was not easy to go over mid-off and mid-on, we need to work on something else. They are experienced batters [on Chandimal and Dickwella], they knew what they have to do, they have been in these type of situations. Unfortunately we did not put pressure on Bangladesh.
Do stay tuned for the presentation...
16:14 Local Time, 10:14 GMT, 15:44 IST: So Chris Silverwood's first Test as Sri Lankan coach ends in a draw. A creditable one at that as they were under pressure on the final day. But this unbeaten stand of 99 has helped them safely see off the game to a draw. Dickwella and Chandimal stonewalling everything and as is the case on the final day, when there seems to be no chance of a result, if both teams agree then a draw can be taken. That's what they did. The pitch did not break up enough for the Bangladeshi spinners to force a final day win. Still a tireless effort from the three spinners especially Taijul. They were hampered by the absence of Shoriful as well. Earlier in the game, Mathews' 199 took Sri Lanka to 397. In reply Bangladesh were boosted by tons from Tamim and Mushfiqur as they gained a 68-run lead. They took 2 wickets late on yesterday to set it up beautifully but Sri Lanka held firm. Nayeem in the first innings and Taijul in the 2nd bowled exceedingly well for the hosts while Rajitha - the concussion sub for Vishwa Fernando, shone with his disciplined line and length bowling. Asitha too stood out with his relentless short ball barrage.
Mahmudul Hasan Joy to Dickwella, no run, one ball and that's that. The players shake hands. The opening Test ends in a draw
Mahmudul Hasan Joy, comes into the attack
What is happening here? Will they call it off now? No. They are playing on. Mahmudul to bowl now.
