India have gone 1-0 up. They were superb with the bat and that meant they got to a huge total of 373. Sri Lanka tried hard but their efforts paled in comparison to India’s. They would want to bounce back better. India have the problem of plenty. Will more selection issues baffle them? We shall see! That is it from game 1. This is Nikhil signing off on behalf of Pradeep, KAD and Siva!

Harsha Bhogle: In the course of an otherwise perfect performance, India will be a touch disappointed they didn't finish it off earlier. Doesn't take away from Shanaka's astonishing shot-making. Two key moments in India's bowling effort. A magnificent opening spell from Mohd Siraj (2-15 from 5) and the pace of Umran through the middle (2-12 from 3)

Virat Kohli | Player of the Match - I don't think there was anything different. My preparation and intent always remain the same. I thought I was hitting the ball nicely. It was close to the template I play with, I understood we needed an extra 25-30 runs. I tried to understand the conditions in the second half. Tried to get a comfortable total for us on the board. The one thing I learnt was desperation doesn't get you anywhere. You do not need to complicate things. You go out there and play without any fear, I can't hold on to things. You have to play for the right reasons and almost play every game like it's your last and just be happy about it. The game is going to move on. I am not going to play forever, I am in a happy space and enjoying my time playing.

Rohit Sharma | India captain - Pretty impressed actually. We started off well with the bat, it was a great effort from all batters. The platform was set for all the batters, I thought we could have bowled better. Don't want to be too critical, as the conditions were not easy. It wasn't easy to bowl under the lights especially when dew comes in. Everyone needs to come to the party if you want to win, but we bowled well upfront. You got to be in the game to take those half chances. You are not going to have a perfect game always, there are certain areas to work on as a group. All the eleven members need to put an effort collectively. I had no idea Shami did that (run-out), he was batting on 98. The way he batted was brilliant, we cannot get him out like that. Not something that we thought off, hats off to him, he played really well.

Dasun Shanaka | Sri Lanka captain - I think the start their openers gave, we didn't use the new ball well, unlike their bowlers who got it to swing. We did have a plan, but the bowler's didn't execute the basics right. We didn't use variations during the first 10 overs. (With the bat) I think I'm doing the basics well, I think I should bat higher in the T20Is, but the team needs me to bat at 6 with Bhanuka at 5.

Umran Malik - I have played 6 games, I just want to bowl well and in the right areas. The wicket was flat, I spoke with Siraj bhai, Shami bhai, the input was to make the most of my pace. I want to be as accurate as possible.

21:23 Local Time, 15:53 GMT, 21:23 IST: India I guess put the game to rest with a mammoth 373. But Lanka made it easier by starting off slowly. They lost a couple of wickets early and that dented them badly. DDS and Nissanka tried their best but their efforts never scaled giant proportions as per the demands of the chase. Shanaka came in late, a little too late, got a tremendous ton but that only reduced the margin of defeat. The 9th wicket stand added 100 runs but as mentioned was a case of too little too late. Earlier, India were propelled by a ton from Kohli and fities by the openers. Hang on for the presentations.

Shami to Shanaka, SIX, and hammered down over long-on! That was a length delivery and smacked over the fence. India win by 67 runs

Shami to Shanaka, FOUR, and slammed for a four! That's the hundred for Shanaka. They will go down. But has been a superb knock from the skipper. He like most times in his career so far was again outstanding against India

49.4

Shami to Rajitha, 5 runs, and overthrows as Rohit tried to bullet a throw at the batter's end. That was patted down into the off-side. They had to run and Shanaka scampered through as the throw was missed. No one was backing up

That might seem to be a comical moment. But Shami almost mankaded Shanaka and the third umpire went upstairs. But he withdrew the appeal after a light intervention from Rohit

49.3

Shami to Shanaka, 1 run, fuller ball, squeezed down to third man for a single. And why did he take the single? That looked a little bit of a baffling call

49.2

Shami to Shanaka, no run, fuller ball, angling in, Shanaka looks to whip it and misses. The ball hits the back pad. The review was taken for the sake of it but was going down leg. Missing the sticks by a long way

49.1

Shami to Shanaka, 2 runs, hoicks the ball across and the man at long-on cuts it off. They get a brace. Two more added to the tally
