20:12 Local Time, 07:12 GMT, 12:42 IST: New Zealand have completely dismantled Sri Lanka to claim a comprehensive win. Chasing a par-total, Sri Lanka's innings never took off. Shipley and Henry bowled beautifully with the new ball and they were helped by some poor shot selection from the Sri Lankan batters. They found themselves 31-5 inside 10 overs and there was no coming back after that. Angelo Mathews was the only batter from the top order to get into double figures and Sri Lanka continued to nosedive to eventually get bowled out for a measly 76. Shipley was the pick of the New Zealand bowlers as he claimed figures of 5-31 in 7 overs to record his first fifer in ODI cricket. If Sri Lanka are brutally honest during their review of this game, they'll realise that they have only themselves to blame for some of the dismissals. A couple of batters fell trying to go after wide deliveries and others while taking on the short ball when the situation didn't demand them to. This is a deflating loss for Sri Lanka, their hopes of direct qualification to the World Cup later this year hinges on this series and they'll need to improve and improve quickly if they are to keep those hopes alive. That's all we've got for you today, do make sure you join us for the 2nd ODI which is in a couple days' time. Until then, take care and goodbye.
