West Indies's glorious past doesn't quite warranty gratitude for a 1-2 series defeat, but, but, Windies's recent plight does. A great place, Lord's, to end a stunning series that surprised everyone who believes in the sanity of present. But there's a past Windies derive their motivation from, and there's a future that they want to build. And given how they turned their predicament into pleasure this series, implies that the future is round the corner. With hopes that you liked the coverage - overtly, shamelessly poetic at times - this is Pratyush Sinha taking leave alongside Krishna and Setti Reddy Sekhar. And special thanks to Raju, Abhishek and Venkatesh for "being there". Have a good life, ta-ta!

Root - captain, England: "The guys were fantastic this morning and set the tone beautifully. I think he pretty much speaks for himself. The hard work Anderson puts behind the scenes.. The control he has with both the balls, new and old.. To be able to hold a length for a significant amount of time is a fantastic skill. He's very good, he's very good (when asked if he's an easy man to captain). He's brilliant in the dressing room, very insightful, very helpful. We have played some great cricket throughout the summer. The way we have won is fantastic and hopefully we can take that momentum forward this winter. We are moving forward as a team. It's (my first summer as England captain) been thoroughly enjoyable. Plenty of learning's along the way and I'm sure there will be more in the future."
Lord's goes Rooooooot, as he walks to collect his medallion.
Holder - captain, Windies: "No regrets. We put up a good fight after the first innings. The second innings we didn't bat as well as we'd have liked. Credit goes to the way Shai Hope played, not just this game for all series. Credit must go to James Anderson. He's a world class player. Congratulations to him on reaching 500 wickets. He's been a competitor over the years. Credit to Ben Stokes and Stuart Broad too. A series in Zimbabwe in a couple of months, so want to keep going. I still think we have to be a lot more consistent with the ball - build more pressure by bowling more maidens - and we have to fight a little bit harder (with the bat) to get ourselves stuck in. And then we have to take our chances when fielding. We let ourselves down with a number of chances in the field. It's very good to see Shai come here and do well, and wishing him the best. Hopefully other guys around him can do the same."
The players now get their medallions. Windies first, and then England will, with Root receiving the Cup to cap it all.
ICYDK: A Test series in England has two Player of the series, each nominated by the opposing team's coach.
James Anderson - Player of the Series, England: "Definitely (will remember it for the rest of my life). Playing a Test at Lord's is always special. My family and friends have been here, and to share the moment with guys I have played 100 Tests with is extra special. I didn't think I would play nearly as much as I have. The team has been enjoyable one to play with. To get a series win like this makes it extra bit special. It did (bowling from the end he doesn't normally bowl at Lord's). There was no swing today, so we used the slope. Tried to create pressure and got rewards for it. Not surprised (with my fitness this summer). I work hard on it. Injuries will happen with age. Thankfully not many to contend with. Gibson will be a huge loss. He's been fantastic to work with and has got a great cricket brain. Has got so much knowledge that he tries to pass on. I'm myself the most aggrieved at the moment. Wish him all the best for the future."
Shai Hope - Player of the Series, Windies: "Hopefully (this is my breakthrough series). It's good to get some runs. Hopefully I can carry on into the next series. This is a tough place to play cricket. We have to really showcase our skills. Good to get some runs under your belt. Hopefully next series, some more. It was a very good experience for me (playing against such bowlers in tough conditions). All the batters have learnt a lot from this tour. It's all about trusting a plan when you go out to bat in these conditions, and executing it."
Stokes - Player of the Match: "It's good to come back here and put in a performance like that. The way we bounced back after losing the second game of the series yet again was credit to the team. I found good rhythm and I quite enjoy bowling long spells. Helps when the ball is swinging like it was on the first day. It's quite hard for Root to get the ball out of my hand then. (The summer) is coming along nicely. I'm getting back to somewhere I want to be. A lot of credit goes to Ottis Gibson; he will be missing from the dressing room. Anderson showed his class in the second innings. He's an absolute legend. He deserves all the applauds he gets. I took the positive approach. Anything in my area, I was committed to go at it."
Okies, we are back live with the presentations. Umpires get the medallions first. And now we have the awards
Hold put, we are waiting for the presentations. Should be worth it.
For England - discounting the usual suspects Root, Cook and Anderson - Stokes was brilliant, scoring the runs. And then his bowling, too, came into its own in this Test match, outdoing Anderson with swing in the first innings. Westley and Stoneman didn't quite scream into our faces with their performances, and Roland-Jones's experimental omission from Headingley perhaps cost England a game, but Root will learn as he ages in captaincy. Greater things, greater challenges await him, notably later this year. We'll see.
And, thank you, Windies! To lose 19 wickets, and pride, within a day at Edgbaston; to brave through ubiquitous vitriol conspiring not just criticism but also self-doubts; and to still be alive enough to pop your neck out of the accumulated abyss, and win a Test, took the world by storm and made our lives totally worth it. Shai Hope and Kraigg Brathwaite were the heroes of that Headingley win, and so were Roach and Gabriel, and allow Holder to go back home with a lot of restored pride that was lost in a stockpile, year after year, generation after generation.
England had a lead of 71 on first innings, 60 of which came off the ninth and tenth wicket stands. That's where England won the game, and Windies lost it. If it was Stokes who damaged Windies decision to bat in the first innings, it was Anderson in the second, harvesting 7/42 to foil Windies' attempt to erase the deficit and set a target, completely elbowing the visitors out of the series.
04:15pm local: Windies needed wickets, and quick ones at that, if they were to defend 107. But all they got from Gabriel was a dreadful delivery down leg, that went for four byes. If you're into omens, that was it. Though Cook perished off Bishoo's first ball in the Test match, Stoneman and Westley hatched a 72-run stand to take England home (secretly bidding for the ticket to Ashes down under).

Devendra Bishoo to Stoneman, 2 runs, England pocket the series 2-1! Stoneman gets across on his front foot and paddles it to fine leg. Had to hurry back in, and makes it before the keeper takes the bails off
Devendra Bishoo to Westley, 1 run, went back and stabbed it through covers
