It wasn't a flat track by any stretch of the imagination but Shimron Hetmyer smoked it as if he was batting in a 20-yard garden. And Shai Hope complemented him brilliantly with a different kind of a ton. West Indies would want to keep these Indian pitches in their pockets and go back. They are such a better team in these conditions than they are at home. This series is set-up nicely with India needing to win the remaining matches. Their ego will be hurt after this defeat and you can expect them to bounce back like a wounded tiger in Vizag. They might tinker with their combination in the next game and play an extra bowler instead of Shivam Dube. Do join us for the second encounter. Until then, this is Varun Dixit signing off on behalf of Sagar Chawla, Ramakrishnan and Harish. Goodbye and take care.

Shimron Hetmyer: I don't know from where the power is coming from. I am trying to hit as hard as I can. This ton means a lot to me. The last one I had was at the start of the year and this one came at the end of the year. It is always nice to have a smile on the face after the victory. It's a good feeling because the last time, I got a hundred in India, we lost the game.

Kieron Pollard: We know the talent that he has. He has been struggling a bit in the last 9 months and he has been under a lot of pressure. We just want to make him understand about his role in the side. He has been in the team from the last 18 months so he has a taste of international cricket. As a management we are very happy about his knock. Everyone playing should be accountable and responsible as you are playing for your team. Cottrell has a magnificent last 18 months. With experience comes confidence and Cottrell is bowling superbly for us. We have talent in the caribbean, we need to give opportunity to the players. (On Jadeja's run-out) At the end of the day, the right decision was made and that's the most important thing for me.

Virat Kohli: Very good signs for us with the performances of Iyer and Pant. Myself and Rohit not clicking today gave a good opportunity for the younsters to stitch together a partnership. You try to go in with as many options as you can. We thought six bowling options would be enough. We thought six bowling options would be enough. I don't think pitch changed drastically, they batted brilliantly. The spinners were getting help but they put pressure on our spinners brilliantly. Hetmyer's innings was outstanding. We would have got 15-20 runs more had something not happended out there. The fielder asked about the run-out and the umpire said not-out. This dismissal end there. The people sitting outside cannot tell the fielder and they can't ask the umpire about reviewing the run out. I have never seen this in cricket. I don't know where the rules are. The referee and the umpire has to take that up and decide. The people sitting outside the field shouldn't dictate what happens on the field and that's exactly what happened there.

Hope: Cramping a bit, that's why I'm not smiling too much. Key is to stay as long as possible, see off the new ball, assess the situation. Key is for someone to bat deep, win the game. Pitch was a bit of a slow turner. Don't know how he (Hetmyer) did it, made batting look easy. Cricket is partnerships. As long as someone bat deeps. The way he was playing, took the pressure off.

Shimron Hetmyer was an absolute legend today. The way he batted positively despite Shai Hope trundling along made the dressing room calm. India tried to take pace off, but they were off with their lengths and Hetmyer was brilliant with his shot selection. He put pressure right through and hit some monstrous sixes despite the cramps. And Hope hung around to a double-hundred partnership. His innings made it look as if India were 30 runs short, when they actually weren't. We all saw how Pooran struggled for timing, meaning it was tough for a new-comer. India had no clue. They were mentally down with Hetmyer's dominance. That was one of the best ODI knocks you have seen in recent times. India's theory of going in with just 4 bowlers and Dube back fired. Are they considering Dube as a batting all-rounder or bowling all-rounder? A bowling all-rounder, or any all-rounder who wants to contribute ten overs cannot be bowling at 120-125kph at this level. The effort's got to be there.

21:47 Local Time, 16:17 GMT, 21:47 IST: "You got to take a decision. This is our decision and we are backing it," were Kieron Pollard's words at the toss when many thought he was crazy to field first on dry pitch. Hats off to West Indies for backing up with performance. Kohli said the spikes are going in and that tells you the looseness of the surface. When Rohit and Rahul struggled to time the ball, it looked like West Indies made a blunder as the surface will further slow down. But they reacted by taking pace off with the new ball and India were two down for 25. 288 did look an above-par total, but one man showed what confidence can do.

C

Chahar to Shai Hope, FOUR, pulled away wide of mid-wicket and it's running away for four. What a grinding hundred, may have looked irritatingly boring, but he was playing a role to perfection. Held one end tight and allowed Hetmyer to flow freely. Not much of a celebration too. Team management pleased
