Carlos Brathwaite then put his hand up to take a fantastic catch that should already make the shortlist in the segment for catches of the year before rain put an end to all proceedings. Credit to the umpires though for pushing the game till the end of the 9th over as the conditions were murky and drizzling from the word go. Anyway on that wet note, we bid goodbye from here. Do remember that there's the third match in the series set to be played on the same ground here in two days's time. Wondering about the forecast - don't check the weather! That's all I can say as I take leave. Not before I wish everyone a great 2018 once more. Make good use of the 1st of Jan wherever you are. Till next time, it's bye. Do join us soon for more.

22:05 Local Time: And the inevitable has happened. Here's CricketWestIndies's tweet for confirmation: "Not the ideal start we wanted. The match was poised nicely but rain had the say at the end. MATCH CALLED OFF." Like the way they have used caps to make it clear that the match has reached its end! What a damp squib to 2018. So the new year starts off with a match that has been ruined by rain. Hope this isn't an omen of sorts for we have some cracking series coming up. Coming back to today's match, Munro made a rapid fifty helped by West Indies's lethargy and butter fingers in the field. Finally after a long over, Kesrick Williams got him out.

21:48 Local Time: The umpires have had a look even as light rain persists. So play cannot start as of now and the cut-off time is getting closer as well. I'm afraid, we won't see more action today going at this current rate. But do stay tuned and say a prayer maybe!

21:31 Local Time: BlackCaps has some news: "The rain has STOPPED! Umpires going out for a look. Latest we can start is 10:18pm local." That latest bit is for the game to be a five-over one which is the minimum for a T20I. Hopefully, there's some good news from the umpires.

20:57 Local Time: No updates. That's the update. Rain continues to fall. And we have started losing overs as well now. Remember we started 20 minutes late and this rain break has just ticked over to 50 minutes and counting. In a T20I we have an hour before overs start reducing. Grim by the looks of it.

20:27 Local Time: The covers remain on even as the rain continues to fall. Not good news for the faithful who have turned up in numbers despite the dodgy weather.

20:09 Local Time, 07:09 GMT, 12:39 IST: Hoho! The umpires have called for the covers. It has been drizzling all the while ever since the game began, and finally they have decided enough is enough. Will have to wait and see for how long this delay will be. West Indies with the momentum after Munro's rapid fifty. The visitors were getting back into this, but now have to contend with this break.

Nurse to Williamson, FOUR, the deep mid didn't pick it at all. Was pulled hard after Nurse dragged it down, wide of mid-wicket and once the ball beat Carlos, it just skipped away. The fielder was late to react and couldn't get there in time

8.5

Nurse to Williamson, no run, tossed up on the stumps, pushed back to the bowler

8.4

Nurse to Kitchen, 1 run, short and down leg, pulled to deep backward square leg, on the bounce to the man

Anaru Kitchen, right handed bat, comes to the crease

Nurse to Tom Bruce, out Caught by Brathwaite!! Have we already seen the best catch of the year? On the opening day of 2018? My word. That's some catch. The big man - Carlossssss - remember the name? Flew to his right, with that huge frame of his and plucked out a one-handed stunner at mid-wicket. Was swiped hard and the ball was travelling, but the skipper used his reach and athletic ability to catch a ball that was going away from him. Was horizontal when he leapt - you beauty and then he flings the ball away to roar in triumph. Outstanding! Tom Bruce c Brathwaite b Nurse 3(7)

Nurse to Tom Bruce, THATS OUT!! Caught!!

8.2

Nurse to Tom Bruce, 2 runs, fraction short outside off, cut to the left of sweeper, two it is

8.1

Nurse to Tom Bruce, no run, follows the backing away Tom Bruce, who swings and gets an inside edge to short fine

Badree

3-0-23-1

7.6

Badree to Williamson, 2 runs, fraction short outside off, Williamson slips as he essays the pull, but recovers to come back for the second before deep mid can get there

7.5

Badree to Tom Bruce, 1 run, on off, Tom Bruce works it across the line to get off the mark

7.4

Badree to Tom Bruce, no run, huge appeal for lbw. Badree reckons there was bat on the flick. Another slider, slides straight on, Tom Bruce looks to flick and may have got an inside edge onto the pad. If not it was close as he was struck low on the pad and the line was alright

7.3

Badree to Tom Bruce, no run, pushed off the front foot and Nurse at short cover moves across to cut it off. Saved the single. Good fielding

7.2

Badree to Tom Bruce, no run, again skidded on, chopped to backward point
