A drama-filled beginning to the New Zealand home season with Eden Park dishing out a run-fest. If this is a sign of things to come, then we are in for a treat over the next few weeks. Onto the second T20I then on Sunday at the beautiful Mount Maunganui. Don't forget to tune in. Until then, adios from everyone here.
Tim Southee | New Zealand captain: It was a very strange game but nice to come out on the winning side. Kieron batted exceptionally well. The fight that Lockie showed was brilliant and we needed something special like that to stop West Indies after the start they got. We were a little bit off the ball but it's nice to be on the winning side. Devon played exceptionally well and kick-started the innings. There's plenty of good stuff to come from him (Kyle Jameison). It's been a long time coming and good to be back playing in front of the home crowd.
Kieron Pollard | West Indies captain: First of all hope the crowd enjoyed it. There was some fantastic cricket with the ball flying all around. It was a topsy turvy game, bit of indisciplined shown by us by the bowling side of things. We got off to a very good start, 50-odd in three overs but losing 5 wickets after that set us back. We put a challenging total on the board and were in the game till the end. In international cricket, 5-6 no balls that is not disciplined. There was something in the pitch when you hit the hard length and we didn't use that. It is about mental toughness now and we have to come back stronger. We will go back and have a chat and see what happens in the next couple of days.
Lockie Ferguson | Player of the Match: The boys started out okay. But bit of bad luck happens at this ground, it is one of the craziest grounds to play as the ball flies everywhere. Fortunately for me it went to hand. Certainly happy with how the boys chased the total. I have put in a lot of work to make sure the body can do it for a long period as I don't think I swing it like Tim or Trent, pace is an attribute that I can add. It is coming out nicely and pleased with the result. We have come to know that at Eden Park, it does rain at night and you go on and off. The boys were switched on and the fielding was exceptional tonight.
23:16 Local Time, 10:16 GMT, 15:46 IST: New Zealand - 1. West Indies - 0. The hosts back to winning ways after a 7-match losing streak. Customary handshakes and lots of smiles in the New Zealand camp as the players make their way off the field. The chase didn't go to plan as far as the Kiwis were concerned as they lost the local lad - Martin Guptill off the first over. Tim Seifert and debutant Devon Conway navigated the innings for a while before Oshane Thomas provided the timely breakthrough to hand the advantage to West Indies. Glenn Phillips walked in at four and seemed busy from the word go. He launched a counter-attack and played a few lusty blows, bringing the game back in balance. A false shot saw him lose his wicket to Thomas and to make it worse, Taylor fell for a duck in the very next over, courtesy a run-out. The tide was back in favour of the visitors until the duo of Neesham and Santner turned troubleshooters for the home team. West Indies' bowlers lost their plot thereafter, kept making silly errors and played into the hands of the New Zealanders. The unbeaten 39-run stand between Santner and Neesham clinched it for the home team in the end.
Pollard to Santner, SIX, glory, glory, glory. Santner seals it off with a six for New Zealand! Predictably another slower ball from Pollard, Santner rocked back and pummeled it over cow corner. That's that..
Pollard to Neesham, 1 run, gives no pace and angles it away outside off, Neesham goes deep and chops it to short third man
Kieron Pollard [1.0-0-9-1] is back into the attack
The hosts one hit away from a victory. Pollard will bowl the final over. Can he produce a miracle with the ball?

Sheldon Cottrell
4-0-30-1
Cottrell to Santner, 2 runs, Cottrell stalks the batsman by following to the leg-side, Santner heaves it away in the gap between deep square leg and deep mid-wicket. Jogs back for the second
Santner has a change of bat. One maximum will do for New Zealand.
Cottrell to Neesham, 1 run, switches his line a little outside off, Neesham drops it behind point
Cottrell to Santner, 1 run, why would you drift away from the norm when you can land these yorkers Cottrell? Sends one on the money, Santner settles for a single through mid-wicket
Cottrell to Santner, SIX, bye-bye ball. Santner, you beauty. Stays still in his crease, anticipated Cottrell to bowl a full delivery and was waiting for it. Backs away and dismisses it way back over long-on. New Zealand get closer
Cottrell to Santner, no run, cross-seam yorker on middle, Santner walks across and can only block it
Cottrell to Neesham, 1 run, full and straight, stabbed to long-on
Sheldon Cottrell [3.0-0-19-1] is back into the attack
Right, 15 from the final two. This is going down to the wire.

Keemo Paul
3-0-39-0
Keemo Paul to Santner, 2 runs, the over finally comes to a close. Santner blasts this high albeit any timing. Hetmyer grabs it at deep mid-wicket although it doesn't make any difference
Keemo Paul to Santner, no ball, 2 runs, no balls galore. This is just poor bowling from Paul, fourth no ball of the over. A vicious beamer, Santner can't time it properly and swings it into the night sky. Hetmyer at deep mid-wicket gets under it and puts it down. Pollard has a word with his bowler
