New Zealand won by an innings and 134 runs

A proper one-sided Test match and New Zealand collect 60 World Test Championship points. Williamson recorded his career-best score and was involved in four half-ton partnerships in addition to the century stand with Tom Latham on the opening day of the Test. The Kiwis will be eyeing to bag all 240 points at the end of this home summer. West Indies, on the other hand, have plenty of issues to address and they now have an extra day to reassess their strategies. Let's hope for a more competitive encounter at Wellington which starts on Friday. Until then, it's goodbye from Abhinand Raghavendran, Pradeep Krishnamurthy, Vineet Anantharaman and Praveen.
Jason Holder: We weren't good enough. Our bowlers tried, we went past the edge quite a few times but credit to Kane, he played an outstanding innings, made us toil. We have some positives from the bowling unit. but our batting wasn't just good enough in both the innings. Credit to Blackwood and Joseph in bringing some respectability to our batting but our top-order needs to stand up. We are still scratching our heads. The preparation was good, we had two solid warm up games. A little bit more application needs to shown. We need to fight a little longer. We need answers and need quickly. Kemar pushed through this Test, he will be going home to be with his family. Shane is still in a lot pain and is doubtful for the second Test. It's time we start delivering, we have done the talking. We need to fight harder. We just gotta turn it around. We have had brilliant support from the management.
Kane Williamson, Player of the Match: It was nice to spend some time out in the middle and build partnerships. It was going past the bat, fortunate for me. It was nice to get a first innings total like that and it's nice to contribute in that way. It was really challenging technically and mentally. Nice to spend some time and get through that tough period, that's Test cricket. Tom Latham was outstanding at the top. Throughout the batting order, we had valuable contributions. Every guy that came got starts, but faced 50-60 balls. It was a really nice contribution. We knew that it will be a tough challenge against WI, we were really fortunate to get off to a really good start and sort of hold onto that position. West Indies bat deep and they showed it with their lower-middle order, they applied themselves really well and a fantastic hundred by Jermaine. Great that the guys stuck. When the ball is moving around, you sometimes get ahead of yourself. Full credit to the bowling attack, it started to flatten out, really good all-round effort. It's important to take the learnings and looking forward to the next Test. For us, it was about sticking to our plans for long periods and some things go your way. We saw some strong application from the batting group and the bowling group to stay on task. You can try too hard, we started that way, but settled. It's important we move focus to that (second Test). We adapted quite quickly. It'll be slightly different in Wellington too. All in all, it was a pleasing effort from our side.
12:21 Local Time, 23:21 GMT, 04:51 IST: A quick-ish end; wasn't it? Just two mentionable partnerships for West Indies. Barring that, it was a mediocre batting performance from the visitors. The New Zealand bowlers found more swing than their counterparts but they also bowled in right channels more consistently. Remember, the Windies won the toss on a 'green track' and managed to pick just two wickets on the opening day. Post that, they were always behind the eight ball and the four-member NZ pace attack was too hot to handle for the Caribbean side. Blackwood and Joseph demonstrated that it wasn't a pitch to get skittled out for 138 and be reduced to 89/6 with their aggressive 155-run stand for the seventh wicket. Jamieson finally ended the stand which lasted more than two hours. And, West Indies ended up losing their last three wickets within a span of 10 deliveries to suffer an innings defeat. It's fair enough to say that Holder's men were out-batted, out-bowled and perhaps even out-appealed!
Wagner to Gabriel, out Bowled!! Game over! That's the best ball to a tail-ender. Full, quick and on the stumps, Gabriel tries to slog across the line by clearing his front leg. Doesn't make contact and the ball uproots the middle-stump. New Zealand win by an innings and 134 runs. Gabriel b Wagner 0(4)
Wagner to Gabriel, THATS OUT!! Bowled!!
Wagner to Gabriel, no run, 134.4kph, rib-lined and Gabriel isn't quite sure what to do. He tries to get away from it by moving towards off, but the ball thuds into his thigh pad
Wagner to Gabriel, no run, 134.8kph, dug in short, Gabriel ducks underneath it
Wagner to Gabriel, no run, very full ball, but Wagner has slipped it down the leg-side
Shannon Gabriel, right handed bat, comes to the crease
Wagner to Blackwood, out Caught by Southee!! Gone! Both the set batsmen gone in quick succession. The trademark Wagner short ball does the trick. Blackwood gets inside the line and tries to pull this away despite not getting into the greatest of positions. Ends up gloving it in the air and Southee takes a dolly at backward square leg. Blackwood's counter-attacking knock comes to an end. He gets a big round of applause from the crowd and rightly so. Blackwood c Southee b Wagner 104(141) [4s-11 6s-2]

Jamieson to Roach, no run, 134.1kph, shapes away from a good length, Roach plays inside the line to let it go through to the keeper
Jamieson to Roach, no run, 133.7kph, full and wide of off, Roach reaches out to defend and gets an outside edge that falls just short of Southee at third slip
Jamieson to Blackwood, 1 run, very full ball, jammed towards deep-ish mid-on
Jamieson to Blackwood, 2 runs, short of length, dabbed to third man
Kemar Roach, right handed bat, comes to the crease
Jamieson to Alzarri Joseph, out Caught by (sub)Santner!! Finally, finally, New Zealand break the partnership. End of a fine knock from Joseph - his career best. He's thrown his bat at anything that's wide the whole innings and he does the same against this full ball. The bat turns at the point of impact and he ends up slicing it in the air. Santner comes in from deep point to catch it calmly with both hands. The 155-run stand has been broken! Alzarri Joseph c (sub)Santner b Jamieson 86(125) [4s-9 6s-3]
Jamieson to Alzarri Joseph, THATS OUT!! Caught!!
Jamieson to Alzarri Joseph, 2 runs, 134.2kph, full and outside off, Joseph presses forward and decides to loft it. Off the bottom part of the bat, Williamson runs back and to his left from mid-off. Puts in a dive in the end, but it's just out of his reach. Excellent effort to get a hand on it
