A result within seven and half sessions tells you this was a spiteful turner. It was.. in the batsmen's mind. Of course, it was a difficult pitch to bat on but not unplayable by any means. Just to mention, Bangladesh have unearthed a new star in Nayeem Hasan. He was brilliant in the Test like Shakib said at the presentations. Anyway, it's onto Dhaka now for the second Test starting from the 30th. Hope to see you there! Until then, it's a goodbye from here.
Shakib, Bangladesh captain: He (Nayeem) was brilliant in the first innings. We all know that he has the capability to pick up wickets. It was a team effort, the contribution from Taijul and Nayeem with the bat in the first innings was tremendous. Mominul batted brilliantly. Small partnerships like 20-30 runs were vital on this wicket and I think we won those small moments. I always feel that whenever I play, I want to contribute to the team in whatever way I can. Few more years to come and many more sucesses, hopefully.
Mominul Haque, Man of the Match: Thankfully, we won the toss and it was easier to bat first. And we took advantage of that. Had the support from the skipper and everyone contributed well. (Roughly translated from Bengali to English)
Braithwaite, Windies captain: It was a tough loss for us. Well done to the Bangladesh team, they did very well. The bowlers did a good job, can't complain. I think new ball was the key, we lost wickets quickly and that cost us the game. Also, we gave 30-40 runs too much in the first innings with the ball. It was a tough pitch to bat on, we were in India and obviously it was a little similar. But, we didn't get partnerships early on and lost wickets consistently. They played very well (Dowrich and Hetmyer), just unfortunate that they couldn't carry on. We can take a lot of positives from this game. It's a huge loss (on Gabriel). But we will overcome it
14:11 Local Time: All 20 Windies wickets falling to spin in this Test. Their frailties against spin exposed once again. They were on life support at lunch losing four wickets and their woes were further exemplified as Bangladesh's spinners led by Taijul wrecked havoc. Hetmyer showed glimpses of revival by blasting a few but couldn't kick-on. Bangladesh were given a bit of scare by Ambris and Warrican - who launched a mini-fightback. In the end, they were successful only in reducing the margin of defeat. Wait for the presentations.
T Islam to Ambris, out Caught by Rahim!! Huge appeal and given. It's all over here in Chattogram. Ambris wants to review it, but forgets that Windies have exhausted both their reviews. Islam runs in and plucks the stumps. He finishes with a six-fer and tell you what, there was no nick there. UltraEdge shows no spike. Flighted just outside off, Ambris props forward to defend and the ball turns away sharply. The sound there could be that of bat hitting the ground. Anyway, it's done. Shannon Gabriel, right handed bat, comes to the crease
Mehidy Hasan to Warrican, out Caught by Shakib!! Pops out, but Shakib holds his breath to snaffle it. This should be it for the Windies, they were just about hanging in through this partnership. Bangladesh fans find their voice back and the end is near for the visitors. Warrican loses patience, wants to heave it across the line but mistimes it. Slicing it towards mid-wicket, Shakib backtracks and clasps it. Warrican c Shakib b Mehidy Hasan 41(55) [4s-3 6s-1]
